In the first four months of 2016, a total of 9,413,070 passengers used the airports Schönefeld and Tegel; 11.6 per cent more than in the same period the previous year. During this period, 86,812 flight movements were recorded; 10.4 per cent more than in the same period the previous year.
Airport CEO Karsten Mühlenfeld: ‘The Berlin-Brandenburg airport location is showing sustainable growth. In the first four months alone, more than nine million passengers have used the Berlin airports Schönefeld and Tegel. Capacities are being increased to meet the continuing strong growth in passenger numbers in SXF. The construction work for expanding Terminal B, the renovation work on multi-storey car park P4 and the building preparations for the new Terminal D2 are well under way.’
Both airports combined recorded 23,815 flight movements in April; 9.8 per cent more than in the same month the previous year. The number of flight movements in Schönefeld rose to 7,990; up 27.7 per cent on the same period the previous year. 15,825 flight movements were recorded in Tegel, representing a 2.6 per cent increase in the number of take-offs and landings compared to April 2015.
In terms of air freight, 3,631 tonnes were recorded at the airports Schönefeld and Tegel in April 2016. This represents a marginal year-on-year increase in air freight volume of 0.1 per cent. At 673 tonnes, air freight volume in Schönefeld in April 2016 was down 3 per cent on the year. 2,958 tonnes of freight were shifted at Tegel Airport; 0.6 per cent more than in April 2015.
