Austrian Airlines significantly increased its passenger volume for the month of April 2018: Austria’s red-white-red carrier transported almost 1.2 million passengers, corresponding to a rise of 5.5 percent compared to April of 2017. This increase is mainly due to the airline’s expanded flight offering in Europe. The flight offering, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) was up by 5.5 percent to around 2.4 billion. Revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) increased by 3.2 percent to over 1.8 billion. Capacity utilization of the flights (passenger load factor) was at an average of 77.3 percent in April 2018, which is 1.7 percentage points lower compared to the prior-year month. The number of flights climbed by 6.7 percent in April 2018 to 12,920.
In the period January to April 2018, Austrian Airlines carried a total of around 3.7 million passengers, comprising a rise of 10.7 percent. The flight offering in available seat kilometres (ASK) was up by 3.6 percent to more than 7.6 billion. Revenue passenger kilometres amounted to over 5.6 billion, an increase of 7.0 percent compared to the first four months of 2017. Capacity utilization was up by 2.3 percentage points to 74.1 percent.
The number of flights climbed by 5.4 percent in the period from January to April 2018 to 44,200.
Andreas Otto, Member of the Executive Board and CCO of Austrian Airlines, commented: “In April we attracted especially business travellers with our flight offer in Europe. In May we will have a highlight in the long haul area again, as we will launch flights to Tokyo on the 15 May.”
