On Saturday 25 April 2015 a large-scale emergency drill was held at Brussels Airport. This kind of exercise is held every two years in compliance with ICAO standards.

The scenario of this year’s drill: a C130 of the Belgian Air Force carrying 40 passengers and 5 crew members has to make a belly landing. To complicate matters the plane also carries dangerous goods on board.

Due to the risk of explosion the victims had to be moved away from the aircraft as quickly as possible.

The fire service and the army arrived on the scene within minutes, as did the emergency services and the police.

A few hundred persons were involved in the drill: the firemen of Brussels Airport and the surrounding muncipalities, the Red Cross, the Federal Police, the army and tens of Brussels Airport volunteers to play the victims.

The drill on the tarmac began at 1 pm and was an overall success.
