Ostend-Bruges Airport welcomed more than 53,000 passengers during the first quarter. Cargo also did well. “We are looking forward to welcoming more passengers again during the summer season“, says CEO Eric Dumas.

Ostend-Bruges airport looks back on the first quarter positively. During the first three months of 2022, just over 53,000 passengers travelled via Ostend. “Passenger numbers at our airport continue to recover,” says CEO Eric Dumas.

The passenger figures are back at the level of 2018. At that time we welcomed 52,800 passengers. Compared to 2019, the number of passengers is 15.8% lower. This winter 3 destinations less were offered from Ostend.”

Additional destinations

The airport also expects a further recovery in the coming months. This week, the first flights to Mallorca and Murcia departed again. Later this month the flights to Ibiza and Crete (Greece) will also restart. In early May, Eskisehir (Turkey), Rhodes and Kos (Greece) will also be added back to the flight schedule.

We notice that more and more individuals are starting to travel again. We are well prepared and look forward to welcoming everyone back to our airport,” concludes CEO Eric Dumas.

Cargo

Cargo traffic through Ostend Airport increased slightly in the first quarter. The traded volume increased in January, February and March to 13,200 tons. (10,854 in 2021). “That’s a nice result,” says Eric Dumas. “Since 2019, the cargo segment grew by 150%. So we are looking at the next few months with caution. In terms of cargo, the second quarter is always a quiet period.”
