Snowfall on frozen tarmac disrupts air traffic at Brussels Airport

Ongoing winter operations at Brussels Airport as snow is falling on a frozen tarmac, the airport is currently closed for arrivals (18:00 UTC+1).

Several flights have diverted to nearby airports: Düsseldorf, Amsterdam, Liege, Lille, … Other flights are currently holding above the airport.

The airport tweeted that delays and even cancellations are possible, passengers are requested to leave well ahead of their departure time and also to check flight status via before heading to the airport. In case of irregularities, passengers have to contact the airline directly.

Update 20:30: At the moment, 130 flights are cancelled. Check your flight info online before coming to the airport. The airport authorities are installing beds and distributing food and water. Winter teams are working hard to clear a second runway.
