This morning 20 children from underprivileged backgrounds flew with a Fokker 50 from VLM Airlines to the United Kingdom to visit the Legoland theme park. This early Christmas present was an initiative of VLM Airlines in collaboration with Antwerp Airport, Lego Benelux, Antwerp Fly Shop and the Child Care and Family Support Center De Kleine Vos, which is located in Borgerhout.

With Christmas approaching, VLM Airlines wanted to offer a free excursion to less favoured children in our society. As soon as the Fokker 50 had taken off from Antwerp airport this morning, the aircraft set sail for the English airfield of Farnborough. From there they went with a bus to Legoland Windsor Resort. Throughout the day, the children could enjoy the beautiful and fun attractions that were put in a colourful Christmas dress during this period of the year. During the return flight, the children were given a nice Lego gift. Around 19:25 the children landed again at the airport of Antwerp.

Six weeks ago VLM Airlines made a successful comeback on the route between Antwerp and London City. To celebrate this, our airline’s employees wanted to set a Christmas gesture for a number of children who are less comfortable in our society,” said Carl Runge, COO of VLM Airlines. “I am proud of everyone who has contributed to this project. It is at times like this that we realise what is really important in life and how much a nice gesture can do. The smile on the children’s faces said a lot. ”

Legoland Windsor is an amusement park with Lego toys as a central theme. The attractions are a mix of lego-decoration and the attraction itself. The park opened in 1996. It was the second Legoland theme park in the world after Legoland Billund in Denmark. In 2016, the park had more than 2 million visitors, making Legoland the most visited theme park in the United Kingdom.
