Re: BRU Summer 2020: news, new routes, airlines
Transavia France will resume Montpellier-Brussels Zaventem service, from 05 April, 2 flights a week, each thursday and sunday.
TVF will open a base, from April 2020. Last year TUI Be was supposed to replace Ryanair, on the Montpellier-Charleroi service, but they withdrew the launching of service, few weeks before the 1st flight.
I think that a matter of time, until my brother books, a Montpellier- Brussels Zaventem - Kigali, with Transavia France and Brussels Airlines or RwandAir . He already did a Montpellier-London Gatwick with EasyJet and London Gatwick - Kigali, with RwandAir
Air France started Montpellier-Zaventem service, on 5 May 1989, using a Fokker 28 (read 05 Mai AF ouvre une ligne MPL/Bruxelles, 5 vols par semaine)
Montpellier based Air Littoral replaced Air France, but route was closed early 90s.
Thanks to Mr Ribes, for the archives

Re: BRU Summer 2020: news, new routes, airlines
With the arrival of TGV Méditerranée , in 2001, the Montpellier Paris / Orly / CDG routes lost lots of passengers.
Like Lyons in 80s, and many others big or small French Cities. Some French cities are not longer linked to Paris (Nîmes, Metz, Strasbourg,..). Air Liberte ended its 5-7 daily service from Montpellier to Orly, while Air France reduced capacity.
Since early 2010s, the trafic is now growing. AF launched "La Navette" service to Montpellier, in 2016. Only Nice, Bordeaux, Marseille and Toulouse have "La Navette". La Navette carried over 1 500 000 millions pax at Montpellier and recently AF added more capacity between CDG (4 flights a day )/ Orly (10 flights a day) and Montpellier, with more flights operated by A321 and A320, instead of CRJ or A318.
Montpellier Paris Gare de Lyon : 5-6 TGV service per day
Montpellier Paris Charles de Gaulles Airport: 1 TGV per day (note that EasyJet operated last summer a 4 weekly service Montpellier-CDG, that won't be operated next summer)
Montpellier Lille : 4 TGV per day. Volotea resumed MPL-LIL, in 2017. The route became quickly a year round service, and from mid 2020, the airline, will operate 4 flights a week, instead of 2.
Montpellier Airport has a long experience with the competition, from TGV. In deed on some routes, it's hard to compete with TGV (Montpellier-Lyon service operated by HOP was definitely dropped). But on some routes, you can beat the TGV.
In 2018, Ryanair carried 62 000 pax between Charleroi and Montpellier. Trafic was decreasing, because year after year, Ryanair cut capacity at Montpellier (bad relations between the local authorities and the airline since many years) : https://www.montpellier.aeroport.fr/fil ... ellier.pdf

UA just announced DUB from SFO for summer 2020. Sadly it’s unlikely BRU will Be announced separately at a later time.

Re: BRU Summer 2020: news, new routes, airlines
Doesn't DUB offer the possibility to do the American Border checks before departure? So arriving at SFO as domestic?Jetter wrote: ↑24 Dec 2019, 02:57UA just announced DUB from SFO for summer 2020. Sadly it’s unlikely BRU will Be announced separately at a later time.

BRU really seems the missing city pair (AMS, LHR, CDG, FRA, ...) - a pitty, let's hope the route gets started anytime soon!
That's correct.Doesn't DUB offer the possibility to do the American Border checks before departure? So arriving at SFO as domestic?

A couple of years ago BRU was mentioned as one of the possible new pre boarding border check airports. What happend with the plans?PttU wrote: ↑24 Dec 2019, 12:44Doesn't DUB offer the possibility to do the American Border checks before departure? Re: BRU Summer 2020: news, new routes, airlines
HU informed that they implemented a small change in their flights to BRU. SZX will not be daily but reduced from 3 to 2 flights. On Monday and Wednesday. However, to Beijing they will add an extra flight and will fly 5 times a week on it. They will fly on the other days. Which means that we still see them daily with a mix of A330 and B787Kapitein wrote: ↑14 Dec 2019, 17:29 With a little delay due to holiday, the slotrequests for S20 (some are confirmed, some not)

AC832/833 YUL daily 0840 - 1450LT
EZ SVG 2x daily x67
EZY LPL 1-3-5-7 (again after stopping the route a few years ago)
HU to SZX requested daily flights
HU to PVG isn't in the list anymore

TO (transavia France) requested for MPL flights
QR requested for a extra flight (daily?) to DOH 2050-2220 LT A350

Does somebody know anything about the FR flights to GRO? The are still in the slots, but not bookable on the site.

At the end of march, when the summer season starts, all Turkish Airlines operations from Sabiha Gökcen Airport (SAW) will no longer be operated by THY, but by Anadolujet. Other that the diffirent operator, there will nothing change for the customers. THY operates flights from SAW to, among others, Brussels and Amsterdam.

Re: BRU Summer 2020: news, new routes, airlines
EZY didn't get any slot at Brussels for Summer 2020, told me a source in the UK (easyJet changed to another airport, not that far from LPL, which is a longhaul hub).

My friend told me easyJet couldn't get slots at BRU for this new route and the launch has been postponed.ostair wrote: ↑17 Jan 2020, 19:20Please explain. easyJet wanted to use the requested slots of LPL route for another airport, approx 40kms away from LPL.
This airport is a longhaul hub.
My words were confusing. Is it more clear like that ?

Not really so there are slots problems in Brussels and they moved the flight to another airport from another airport?!?!TLspotting wrote: ↑17 Jan 2020, 20:55My friend told me easyJet couldn't get slots at BRU for this new route and the launch has been postponed.ostair wrote: ↑17 Jan 2020, 19:20Please explain. But because they have no slots they don't fly to Brussels is that correct?
Hasta la victoria siempre.
Re: BRU Summer 2020: news, new routes, airlines
My understanding is they just pretended to be interested in flying from Brussels to Liverpool when asking for specific slots to BRU, while in reality they intended to serve Manchester with those slots once obtained...
Why do they have to act so secretly about what UK route they really wanted to serve in the first place?
I still remember an almost identical story about their now axed flights to Garwick from a couple of years ago, which were initially requested as CDG flights or something like that. Could be wrong about the exact route and its placeholder, but it was definitely the same trick they played there...
Seems like a typical thing to so for easyjet, no idea why really as others don't seem to bother.
