Re: National strike in Belgium on 13 February 2019
It's the aim of the trade unions to cause as much damage and distress to both companies and public as possible. Uncertainty about the exact timing of the strike is part of that plan.

Other airlines are also taking measures to minimize the discomfort for passengers.
Re: National strike in Belgium on 13 February 2019
TUI Belgium spokesperson Sarah Saucin said that usually TUIfly Belgium doesn't cancel flights during strikes, but re-routes them to foreign airports which are then reached by bus. No measures have been decided yet, but TUI prepares for the day of the strike.

Due to the general strike planned by the Belgian unions for 13 February, we expect operations at Brussels Airport to be seriously disrupted, leading to flight cancellations, heavy delays, flights diverted to and from other airports, and problems with baggage delivery. These flights depart from abroad on the 13th, but will land on the 14th in the morning. When the strike is over.
Not all aircraft will stay in Brussels: I think that most medium-haul aircraft will depart Brussels Airport on the evening of the 12th, stay for two nights abroad, and will return in the morning of the 14th.

No 330s leave the 12th only to return the 14th, hence the departures on the 13thMD-11forever wrote: ↑08 Feb 2019, 16:06These are only arrivals, so I guess all incoming flights to BRU will be cancelled on 14/02?CTBke wrote: ↑08 Feb 2019, 15:24 The following flights will operate on Wednesday 13 February 2019:

Thanks for the clarification!

there will be no Brussels Airlines plane taking off out of BRU on the 13th, those A330's will stay overnight at their destination to leave the 13th in stead of the 12thshockcooling wrote: ↑08 Feb 2019, 16:13No 330s leave the 12th only to return the 14th, hence the departures on the 13thMD-11forever wrote: ↑08 Feb 2019, 16:06These are only arrivals, so I guess all incoming flights to BRU will be cancelled on 14/02?CTBke wrote: ↑08 Feb 2019, 15:24 The following flights will operate on Wednesday 13 February 2019:

Euh yes indeed what I wrote, hence the departures on the 13th like on your list, all of them depart from outstationCTBke wrote: ↑08 Feb 2019, 16:24there will be no Brussels Airlines plane taking off out of BRU on the 13th, those A330's will stay overnight at their destination to leave the 13th in stead of the 12thshockcooling wrote: ↑08 Feb 2019, 16:13No 330s leave the 12th only to return the 14th, hence the departures on the 13thMD-11forever wrote: ↑08 Feb 2019, 16:06

Re: National strike in Belgium on 13 February 2019
Pro tip for SN staff: if you want to become a successful ‘national’ airline despite LH’s efforts to turn you into a low cost franchise you don’t go on strike for vague reasons!
Re: National strike in Belgium on 13 February 2019
SN staff will not strike (except maybe a few lost exceptions), the cancelations are because basically 'everyone else' is expected to strike with medium to very heavy impact expected (there are even talks about the entrance road to the airport being blocked and BRU itself is asking everyone to replan their travel arrangements).
When part of the flights was still planned, SN asked its staff for volunteers to help at the airport with all sorts of stuff from informing pax to loading luggage (one of the main reasons why even an accounting guy or whatever at B.house have a badge with airside access even though they don't need it for their job, is to be able to help in situations like that), all the required slots for volunteers were filled in no time and with buffers. I thinks that's far from a strike mentality! This is just force majeure and I'm sure pax will be more happy with their travel plans adapted today vs being uncertain about whatever might happen with the very likely consequence of chaos at the airport.
