It's indeed a one off: return to lessor. End of the runway for re-born Eastern Airlines?

Air France-KLM (SkyTeam) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Singapore Airlines (Star Alliance) and its regional subsidiary SilkAir to codeshare on each other’s flights as of 27 April 2017.

Earlier, the Lufthansa group (Star Alliance) signed a codeshare agreement with Cathay Pacific (oneworld) for flights to the Pacific and Oceania.

Do alliances still have a meaning? Why couldn't the Lufthansa group sign with Singapore?

No really since the Emirates-Qantas deal.
For example on the flights from DXB to SYD only codeshare between EK and QF (and not the other oneworld partners)

Another attack on a United Airlines flight .

' And this time it was a scorpion that got its revenge on a passenger.
Richard Bell was on a flight from Houston to Calgary Sunday when a scorpion reportedly fell from an overhead bin and stung him. The flight crew contacted a doctor on the ground for medical advice.
United says his injuries were non-life threatening and medical personnel took care of Bell when he landed in Calgary.
No word on how United plans to make good.

I spend 45 min in the queue in BRU trying to get back into the country on thursday .. nothing new ... Could have been a lot quicker obviously, if only the electronic gates were switched on.

Indeed, there was something going on in OST and to be fair it would be so nice to see some old classics getting scrapped there :)
