Looking back to 2014

Post by sn26567 »

A short summary of my year 2014:

- only 13 flights :(
- 3 new countries: United Arab Emirates, Sultanate of Oman, Sri Lanka :)
- 2 new airlines: SeaWings, Etihad :)
- 4 new airports: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Colombo :) and Fuerteventura (unwillingly, due to diversion) :(
- 2 new aircraft types: Cessna 208 Caravan Amphibian, A340-600 :)
- best memory: the trip above Dubai in the co-pilot's seat of the Cessna 208 Caravan Amphibian
- worst memory: can there be a bad memory when flying?

Looking forward to 2015 being better (10 flights booked) !

Two flights for me in 2014, but they were hell of alot better than the flying experience of 2013.

I had MAN-BRU and BRU-MAN. I flew on an A319 I'd not been on before (OO-SSC) and had my first flight with Brussels Airlines.

Well, for me 2014 was a quiet year... flights wise! Only two sector, but everything was a first:
- first time in Orly and Ajaccio
- first time in a 747 (and on the upper deck :-) )
- first time with Corsair

Now, I hope to fly a bit more in 2015!

Hi,

So the year came almost to an end and again time to fill in this topic at the end of a year...
I just finalised my own flying year so here are mine statistics... as I can say another very good year...
sectors : 71 - 2 less then my record last year -
new types : DC10-30, EMB175, EMB135, SF3A, B736 & A318(finally), AN2, CRK, ATR72-600
new airliners : BG,2N,DY,BE,TK,SQ,MH,D7,AK,BM,F7,RO
best memories and highlights for 2013 : a last glimpse of the DC10, KIRUNA in the snow, F117 wreck in Belgrado, Flying an AN2, Air Asia - nice to see a very good LCC ( forget what happend yesterday ) -, Tomorrowland party in the air :), an ebola? aviationtrip to Skopje and flying one of the nicest and smoothest quietly aircraft since ever : the CRK...
best service in 2014 : Turkish Airlines
worst service in 2014 : Ryanair ( times are changing .. )
most surprising flights in 2014 : Biman DC10 ! last minute but great !

A very good year as I said before...

What will bring 2015 ?

Booked already A388 & DHC6 & the Metroliner !! as new types and as nice destinations LAS & LAX ...
Will try also to get on a classic of the year.. hoping on a warbird this time...
Other ideas under construction...

AVGeeks trip-wise : none... yet.. but a weekend idea in toughts...

2015 will be a very interesting year ..

Will FR and SN grew together in 2015 @BRU ?
Will we see a A350 in Belgium like the B787, somewhere on a promotour ?? ( same last year haha )
Finally looking forward to the CS-series taking the air ....

We will see... by now... already wishing everybody a HAPPY NEW YEAR and lots of flying fun and happy landings in 2015 ! Cheers ;)

In September, I flew to the lovely city of Montreal to enjoy the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 for the first (KL 671) and last time (KL 672)...

The flights KL 1724 and KL 1723 were both operated by a Embraer ERJ-190 which also was a new aircraft type for me!
So, 2014 was a perfect plane spotting & flying year for me! :D

4 companies : Ryanair, Wizzair, Vueling, Flybe/Stobart Air
3 types : Boeing 737-800, Airbus A320, ATR72

Best souvenir : inaugural flight Antwerp-Southend on 3 July

Wow, I feel like such a small shrimp
And usually I think I travel a lot

Anyway!

My overview;
29 flights
Carriers; SN 12, LH 4, AV 4, SK 2, FI 2, HQ 2 (NEW), CM 1 (NEW), OV 1, KF 1 (NEW)
Types; A319 10, A320 9, A330 3, CRJ9 2, B757 2, B717 1, E190 1 (NEW), A321 1

Map;
Image

Best trip; Flight to Dakar, great crew, great service and for the first time tasty vegetarian food
Worst trip; Flight to Rome, horrible weather, abandoned landing (I did feel scared at some point) and ending up in some Military Air Force Base. Which was a special experience, not always that great but at that moment I was just glad to have landed.

11 flights for me in 2014, a new personal record!
All of them in Europe,

Carriers and type: SN 6: 4 A319 1 RJ100 and 1 Dash 8-Q400 (new)
LH 3: 1 A321 (new), 1 A319 and 1 E195 (new) (cityline)
SAS 1: A320 (surprisingly a new type for me)
DC(Kalmarflygg) 1: SB20 (new) and most fun :)

New airports: GOT, BMA, CPH, MLA, KLR, MRS, FRA and MUC (thanks to a strike with LH)

A year with a lot of new things but strangely not even on flight with a Boeing!

Started 2015 good with my first flight today and 2 more planed this month!

Fewer flights for me in 2014 and none to USA or Canada (in 2013, I had 3 x LAX/SNA, 3 flights to Canada including YVR, YEG, YVG, Thunder Bay, YYZ, YUL, YQM …).
So only about 40 flights in 2014, some multi-sectors.

I’ll remember MME, Durham-Teesside, a first for me.
Tell me about a ghost airport. OK, besides the two dailies with KL the screens also show AF, SU, AZ, Kenya Airways, DL, EY, … but these are code shares !

I also had a marathon flight in February : BRU-ZRH-DXB-BLR-PNQ.
The LH/Privatair direct from FRA to Pune seems attractive but much less so in a 737 for +8h (non-stop) outbound and +10h inbound (tech stop in OTP). Of course you can always (try to) book in C but these flights are usually sold out weeks in advance, and … come at +4k€ !
So I enjoyed a midnight dinner at the Meridien Village and went back to the airport to board the EK flight at 03:00lt (ouch).
Return flight was daytime PNQ-DEL-DXB where I worked for a couple of days, then DXB-ZRH-BRU.

But this flight had a continuation that was : BRU-Home-Shower-Office-BRU-FRA-GDN. I’ll stop doing these crazy things …as soon as I turn 35 ;)
Return the next day via MUC. I burned some miles for an upgrade on FRA-GDN-MUC. Nice and worth it.

Also very nice (well, long and boring flight but I mean service-wise) was TK to JNB in a 773. Even in cattle class you got a Menu card, slippers, …

“Sentimentally” the most important for me was to return to Brazil after, ahem a few years.
I was involved in the project of turning the then Cumbica air base into the airport known since as … Guarulhos. For some strange reason I never returned to Brazil for 30 years so it was the first time I could see “my baby” in operation.
With 40M Pax/year I’d say the baby has grown up. The T3 was built in record time and inaugurated for the World Cup. T3 is home for most international flights ; TAM and LAN have moved there as well.

BRU-ZRH-GRU with LX.
CGH-BSB-CGH with TAM.
GRU-ZRH-BRU with LX.

Last flight of the year was BRU-KGL-EBB with SN. Return was EBB-KGL with RwandAir to catch the bus back via NBO. SN in Y, return in C, very nice.
I shall report on this one.

One sure thing : I'm not better in 2015 when it comes to add pics in my post :?

Your retrospective is almost as good as a full-fledged report.

The inclusion of pictures has been greatly improved with the new phpbb software used in the forums. While you write your posts, click on "Attachments" beneath the box, than on "Add files", select your pic, etc...

Thanks André,

Now let me see if this is within reach of my capabilities

Two pics showing the new Pier built at BSB Brasilia prior to the World Cup.

Different compression ratio as I usually take 3-5MBs.

Edit : Well, I already have part of the answer ...
Need to position the pics while typing maybe...
