Post by Passenger »

CS-TMT had to repatriate Belgian citizens from Japan on Saturday, but the aircraft is grounded in Anchorage : there was a technical problem (computer problem) during a flight From Washington to Seoul.

It's sad to see that the airplane put in service to replace one that was apparently less than reliable, doesn't seem to be much more reliable. Better luck next time?

I don't think I would want to be saved by the Belgian Airforce in these times...

Never trust on only computers, that's why they should lease a Boeing :P

cnc,

As I remember last time our F16 wanted to operate in Kosovo, they didn't get clearence to fly missions because
they weren't equipped with modern anti-air/night materials...or so..
I remember also that the Dutch replaced our F16 missions..

Always the same.. after one failure it don't stop.. wheel of the runaway...

Self maintained jet fighters ?

Okay I'm way to negative but I love the planes.. live very near Kleine Brogel AFB so..
Bashing on the army was always popular wasn't it ..

Hope in the future the AF can operate in a whole european story with belgium in a glory role with their A400M
operations, leave the fighters for the Dutch if they can ever decide..

But way out of topic now sorry..

Just being sarcastic, sorry !

They are known to be amongst the best maintained fighter jets around. And they get a regular update like a fairly recent Mid-life Update which brings them on par with the worlds average fighter jet fleet.

The BAf A330 is still lying at Anchorage !
The spare parts have been sent to Memphis, Tennessee and are still awaited at Anchorage.
A Spanish aircraft will bring back the Belgian from Japan.
Another "histoire belge", as say the French ...

http://www.air-journal.fr/2011-03-20-ja ... 27331.html
The Belgium is one of the first countries to have mobilized a military aircraft to evacuate its nationals from the Japan following the worsening of the nuclear crisis in the North of the country. But five days after this decision, the device is still blocked in Alaska, due to a failure of one of electronic signs which must be replaced.
Expected Saturday, shipped on-site spare parts were poorly oriented by the Fedex express courier company, which delivered them to Memphis, in the Tennessee (South America), said Sunday a spokesman for the belgian Department of defence .

Air De Crem not much better than Air Flahaut ....

And all this for ... only 31 people requesting to leave Japan !!! I saw Minister Van Ackere explaining very proudly a few days ago on television that 3 rotations of the A330 should probably be necessary to evacuate all belgian residents in Japan ... Once again how to spend easily (our) money ...

I would rather say "histoire portugese".

The Belgian A330 after all is CS-TMT, so it's up to HiFly to take care of maintenance and technicals.

(although I think that the Belgian government should not have sent the A330 to Japan)
