" Plane with 47 aboard crashes in Venezuela

An airplane with more than 45 passengers and crew crashed Monday morning in Venezuela. The aircraft belongs to the government-owned Conviasa airline and crashed in Bolivar state, in southeastern Venezuela, said civil protection official Jose Zamora.

Zamora said there may have been survivors.

Initial information indicates there were 43 passengers and four crew members on board, said Francisco Garces, the Venezuelan minister of transportation and communication.

Both officials made their comments on the CNN-affiliate Globovision TV station.

No further information was immediately available.

In het oosten van Venezuela is een vliegtuig gecrasht. Er bevonden zich 47 mensen aan boord. Er is sprake van 23 overlevenden. Het vliegtuig van de maatschappij Conviasa, dat onderweg was van Ciudad Guayana naar de Caraïben, crashte kort nadat het opgestegen was. Het toestel kwam neer bij een grote staalfabriek. Meer informatie ontbreekt voorlopig

Accident: Conviasa AT42 near Puerto Ordaz on Sep 13th 2010, impacted terrain

A Conviasa Aerospatiale ATR-42-300, registration YV1010 performing flight V0-2350 from Porlamor to Puerto Ordaz (Venezuela) with 43 passengers and 4 crew, impacted ground ab out 9 kilometers (5nm) from the airport. One person has been killed, multiple injuries are being reported.

Almost half of the passengers aboard a plane which has crashed shortly after takeoff in Venezuela are believed to have survived.
A local official said at least 23 of the 47 people aboard the domestic flight are being treated in hospital for injuries.

The plane, which belongs to the state-run airline Conviasa, is reported to have fallen shortly after takeoff at Manuel Carlos Piar Guayana Airport, in the eastern city of Puerto Ordaz.

Transportation Minister Francisco Garces told state television the plane went down on a state-run steel factory about six miles from Puerto Ordaz.

He said the flight, which was carrying 43 passengers and four crew, was travelling north to Margarita Island.

The cause of the crash remains unknown.

This crash happened just the day when Conviasa launches a weekly Caracas - Madrid flight. Not a good sign for this new route...

Landing in the middle where a steel mill keeps its ingots and bar material ( this is the play ground where I come for my work ) is not the best landing place on earth.

Well, they can cut up the plane and put it in the furnace straight away.

Imagine if the ATR would have landed on the building with the 4 furnaces, each holding maybe 20 T of molted metal.

Update on the Venezuela plane crash: it is now said to have killed 15 people from the 51 crew and passengers who were on board. Authorities say 36 survived the ATR42 crash. All survivors were taken to hospital. None is in critical condition. Many went already home.

Whats the seating capacity of an ATR42.
Also was the weather bad at that time or is it pointing out to a technical reason.
