New to aviation

Post by CN-RAM »

Hello all

My name is Rel and I am new to both this community and aviation.

Can I ask? How does one get into aviation and learn about planes, routes, airports, technicalities, etc etc

I visited Farnborough airshow in July and I am completely mesmerised by the aviation industry - it seems so complex!

Help!

:!: :?: :!: :?: :?

Hello, Rel. Welcome to Luchtzak.

By reading our forums you will learn a lot about aviation, and if you do not know something, just ask: many readers will be happy to reply.

Welcome Rel,

So you've been caught by the aviation microbe? Sorry to say but I've a bad diagnosis...you will carry this microbe untill the end of your life and maybe you will infect other people too. So be careful! :D

How to learn about it? Just read everything on this site, that would be a great step! And ask questions as many as you want, that's how you'll learn it. Watch and read everything about aviation, and then you'll be able to talk about it with fellow aviation freaks! :)

greetings
Dr. Moons

Welcome to Luchtzak CN-RAM and enjoy the world of aviation.

It's indeed a very complex world and you will never know everything about it. But by reading over here you will already be able to learn quite a lot.

Welcome to Luchtzak CN_RAM.

I also know very little about aviation, but my interest is genuine.

You will learn loads though on these friendly forums (or is the word "fora"?) What I have learned about aviation has come from people on Luchtzak.

Enjoy posting on here!! :) :) :)

Welcome to Luchtzak CN_RAM. Nice to see another member in England.

VC10 omits to say that she has also learned about aviation from yours truly, but she has become more frequent on Luchtzak and now I have to drag her from the computer if I want to post anything

Hello CN-RAM:

Some suggestions

* participate or read forums such as these.
* read some books that seem interesting
* get a magazine every now and then
* visit many websites

And, of course:

* try to take a flight every now and then :D

Greetings,
Ivan

i read flight international but at times it gets too technical. and i hate defence/military - take that crap out man.

i fly often but i still can't tell the difference between a 737 and a 757, or an a320 and an a321 etc etc

i have read through a lot of forums and have even posted one or two messages, so i'm getting there

just read that an olympic airlines plane had to be diverted because of a bomb scare - terrible, must be real scary. anyone here been on a flight and been told there may be a problem on board?

Sort of. Me and VC10 were on an Icelandair 737 which was just about to start its take off run at Keflavik Airport when the engines cut out and we had to return to the terminal. We sat for ages in the aircraft whilst the problem was dealt with, but no one was happy when the aircraft eventually left. When we landed in Glasgow we were met and escorted to the terminal by the fire brigade. I rate that as the worst flight I have ever been on.

I think you're right, it was my friend (who we call spotty because he likes aircraft, but he doesn't actually spot aircraft though) who actually took me along to farnborough - i've been infected!

does anybody have a cure?!

actually, i don't want to be cured just yet........this stuff is actually quite interesting

I am happy to say there is no cure for the aviation bug; all you can do to keep it happy is to spend times at airports or flying, & you will find it is quite good to have the '"bug"

Ello ram

Yes indeed there is no cure . . .

I used to watch planes all the time up at Luton airport, Every weekend i was there from morning till night, then weekdays became a habit HA!

I then hit 16 and took a step back from it all and i must say i was miserable, Watching the planes flying over my house because i live right next to the flightpath . . .

I think everyone is taken back by the awesomness that is aircraft ... Tonnes of Metal and power roaring around our planet on a constant basis.

I for one am an addict and its an addiction i will never grow tired of :D

ps . . CN-RAM you live in London so you got a mighty big choice of local airports to start your learning at 8)
