Re: Belgian Air Force F16 burned out at EBFS Florennes
According some french speaking media, one of the F-16 parked "open fire" on the destroyed one. Is this possible ? Could it be possible that during rearming a mistake was made ?

Seems to have happened on Apron Golf.
"Vador" is usually parked in the shelter next to it, on the left hand side of the video.
This is pre-flight area usually with possibly some light intervention but no "maintenance".
Something went wrong of course but the French "open fire" is kind of a stretch
Let's hope the guys are OK.

or during maintenance, happened before, for ex.
apnews.com November 30, 1988 wrote:A sailor on the USS Nimitz was killed today and another was injured when an aircraft gun accidentally fired and hit another warplane, causing a fire on the flight deck, military officials said.
The fire was controlled in about 20 minutes, but six aircraft parked on the deck were damaged, the officials said. The incident occurred while crews were performing ″trouble-shooting maintenance″ on the parked aircraft

From today’s homepage:
I agree that the article in De Standaard was poor journalism: a title that wasn’t supported by content, a content that was based upon a statement from a very subjective source, an content that deviated from what had happened.
Repeat: the Air Base chiefs failed to react to last Friday’s event. That was probably the reason why De Standaard rejected their letter.
Allow me to disagree with the above statement “De Standaard decided, wrongly, not to publish the letter”. The reply from both Air Base chiefs was no reply to the content from the article: it was just a general overview of the F16 successfull operations. The F-16 incident at Florennes Air Base: Belgian Air Force reacts to an unworthy newspaper article
This weekend, an article appeared in Belgian newspaper De Standaard about the incident with an F-16 fighter jet at Florennes Air Base. The commanders of the 2nd and 10th Tactical Wings of the Belgian Air Force found the title of the article completely misplaced. Together they wrote a letter that they sent to the newspaper. De Standaard decided, wrongly, not to publish the letter.
Aviation24.be considers that every opinion, especially from people who are very close to the incident, is worth publishing. We thus translated the letter into English: you can read it hereunder.

The fact of the matter is, war is a dangerous game and which requires a lot of training in order to complete missions successfully. Accidents happen and not a human in this world is 100% perfect.
The investigation into this incident will result in "lessons learned' and the likely hood of a similar incident will be greatly reduced.
