Re: Ryanair in 2018
is the 28 Sept strike on or not? I haven't heard much about it in the past days... thanks for your input.
Re: Ryanair in 2018
AFAIK, the strike has not been called off. However, since Ryanair signed a contract with Italian cabin crew unions, recognising Italian law for the labour contracts, it is likely that the Italians will no longer participate in the strike.

Ryanair Sun (Poland) plans to gradually take over scheduled charter operations of Ryanair in Poland, with a planned fleet of 20 aircraft.
Ryanair hopes to find an agreement with German unions before end December 2018, said CMO Kenny Jacobs.
Ryanair intends to hire 1,000 new pilots per year over the next five years. The airline is also looking to train-up 450 new pilots over the same period as part of what it calls a “major” new training programme.

Allways getting worse: Ryanair has cancelled this morning's Brussels-Barcelona, leaving all passengers stranded at BRU. No rerouting was offered. The passengers only received a paper with instructions how to get a refund:
https://www.hln.be/sport/voetbal/champi ... ~add41c3b/
My advise: demand refund of the airticket price plus the 250 Euro EU-261/2004 indemnity plus price of the football ticket. When Ryanair refuses (which they will do), go to a civil court. Legal base: potje breken potje betalen. Burgerlijk Wetboek. Everyone has to pay the damage one causes.

French is not my home language, but if I understand what is written in that article, they will only do so as from 01/03/2020. Maybe. Perhaps. That's not "Ryanair va reconnaître la législation belge": that's "Ryanair continue à refuser la législation belge".TLspotting wrote: ↑18 Sep 2018, 22:52 Got some news.

Re: Ryanair in 2018
I'm afraid not much is going to change at Ryanair: During today's AGM, David Bonderman was reelected Chairman of the Board with 70% of the votes and Michael O'Leary CEO with 98%.

Ryanair cabin crew unions in five countries warned that unless the airline shifts its “behaviour and attitude”, their strike planned for on 28 September 2018 will proceed.
In other news, Ryanair complained to the EU Commission about Spain’s regional Valencian government giving financial aid to Air Nostrum (as if Ryanair never received financial aid from regional authorities...).

Re: Ryanair in 2018
The Dutch based Ryanair pilots will strike for the second time on the 28th of September 2018. For the last ten months the Dutch Airline Pilots Association (VNV, Dutch ALPA) has tried to negotiate a collective labour agreement between Ryanair and the Dutch ALPA without any result. Also this second strike of Dutch based Ryanair pilots should be a signal for the Ryanair management. Our goal is clear #RyanairMUSTChange and respect rights of their workers. The Dutch ALPA demands are modest: Dutch law should be applied; no more bogus self-employment and a sufficient sick pay and pension.

Friday strike: Ryanair announced that it will cancel 190 out of their 2,400 scheduled flights affecting nearly 30,000 passengers. 8% of flights have been canceled.

Ryanair canceled more flights (less than 100) tomorrow due to a short notice strike, called by VC union (Germany).
All affected customers have received emails/text messages this morning advising them of these flight cancellations and their options.

Statement EU 26/09/2018: Commissioner Thyssen receives Michael O'Leary, CEO Ryanair
This morning, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility, Marianne Thyssen, received Michael O'Leary, CEO of Ryanair. The meeting took place upon request of Mr O'Leary, to discuss the current dispute at the airline company on the application of labour law and the steps Ryanair is taking. During the meeting, Commissioner Thyssen reiterated that EU rules on employment contracts for mobile air crews are clear: It's not the flag of the aircraft that determines the applicable law. It is the place from where the workers leaves in the morning and returns in the evening, without the employer having to cover the expenses. The Commissioner also stressed: "Respecting EU law is not something over which workers should have to negotiate, nor is it something which can be done differently from country to country. I made this very clear to Mr. O'Leary today. I am not against Ryanair or against the low-cost business model. But with great success also comes great responsibility. The internal market is not a jungle; it has clear rules on fair labour mobility and worker protection. This is not an academic debate, but about concrete social rights of worker."
