Re: Brussels Airlines in 2018
And it is 2 transfers for many pax from Europe to Afi destinations.
Re: Brussels Airlines in 2018
It s not bad.. why 2 transfers? They are flying nonstop to Addis from most of their destinations out of Europe.. even BRU to Addis is direct on some days.. airport in Addis is not fantastic but one flies state of the art aircraft, service on board is excellent.. prices are really really reasonable.. their C class product is very good as well and cheaper than that of the European competition, often for half of the price.. for a pax in Geneva or Manchester for instance SN or KL/AF is no longer the only options to Africa.
Re: Brussels Airlines in 2018
Till winter time the BRU ADD is direct but with stop in MXP or VIE. No BRU ADD. In winter time flight will be MAN BRU ADD...new competition for SN.
Re: Brussels Airlines in 2018
On triangular flights, you normally do not transfer.
I tried to find a non-stop Manchester to Addis, but didn't find any; so that, if you fly beyond ADD, you have at least 2 transfers.b720 wrote: ↑08 Sep 2018, 15:12 It s not bad.. why 2 transfers? PS: 1. I don't want to emphasize that transfer thing too much, but it might be a factor for some people or under certain circumstances.
2. The reputation of ET is well-established, especially its C class, and they offer good bargains too.
3. Sorry, I'm a bit off-topic here.

Hello,
Since 1st Sept there is no longer Brussels Airlines Cargo (082-prefix for Airwaybill numbers).
It is all replaced by Lufthansa Cargo (020-prefix).
As a result:
A TOTAL EMBARGO FOR CARGO ON BRUSSELS AIRLINES TO KINSHASA.
Rumours go President Kabila does not want Lufthansa in his country.
True?
Probably the truth is somewhat different, but the fact is Brussels Airlines is hit again, after first losing several flights a week, now no cargo revenue anymore.
What's going on in Congo?
Anyone with more information?
And on a side note: More and more cargo (especially IAD, JFK, YYZ and BOM) might go via FRA or other "real" Lufthansa stations ? And a tiny bit might come to BRU as extra options if space restricted at those stations...
(info received from a very close friend working at Brucargo)
Thanks a lot.

Do somebody now if Luanda keeps two flights a week or if it goes back to three on the winter schedule?
Hasta la victoria siempre.
Re: Brussels Airlines in 2018
This is for sure not to the advantage of the shippers located in or close to Belgium!by pijaleu » 10 Sep 2018, 08:46

I remember when Swisscargo took over SN's cargo ops, SR routed all possible cargo through ZRH,even when the transit-leadtimes for our goods was significant longer. We had to insist to use direct flights from BRU,but if you didn't keep an eye on it it was routed through ZRH,even in several installments,on several flights. At the end we re-routed a lot of our cargo through AMS,which was more secure at that time.
I'm afraid a similar scenario could develop now with LH taking over SN cargo operation....

Didn't LH say to SN, make money and then you can grow like Swiss....
Then LH takes important revenue away from SN... how are they supposed to make money!
Just read that 2 people from Air Berlin and Ryanair are putting together a project called Swiss Skies to fly long haul starting with 16 A321LRs...
Find a few people from Brussels Airlines maybe and put a similar project together in Brussels... forget LH...
Start operating flights from Brussels to all over North America where the 321LR can reach and negotiate for an African network.... if those guys can do it out of Basel there is no reason it can't be done out of Brussels!

And ask Bernard Gustin as CEO?
Re: Brussels Airlines in 2018
That's the LH hypocracy at play. They don't want SN to make money because it would prove SN would have a future inside LH... They want the company to underperform so at one day they can say "Told you so..." and pull the plug.JustPlanes wrote: ↑11 Sep 2018, 00:05 Didn't LH say to SN, make money and then you can grow like Swiss....

They're just sugarcoating what will turn out be a dicision taken a long time ago...
Re: Brussels Airlines in 2018
Brussels Airlines records 16.6% passenger growth in August ... The pressure on the ticket price remains high, however.

Well, maybe it has nothing to do with LH, but with the worsening of diplomatic relations between Belgium and its former colony:pijaleu wrote: ↑10 Sep 2018, 08:46 Hello,

I guess this sounds a lot more plausible than mere rumours about Kabila not liking LH.

Eurowings to start Dusseldorf to Las Vegas service on 03 July 2019, with Brussels Airlines A330-300 or A340-300.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2018
Pretty amazing that the huge Lufthansa and Eurowings needs little Brussels Airlines to operate their long haul flights out of DUS... I think its pure bs... that is growth that Brussels Airlines could do for themselves out of BRU if LH had any interest in the success of the Belgian airline... but we know they don't... on the contrary... the sooner they can wrap things up the better for their #1 project.. Eurowings
Meanwhile other airlines will get onto the Belgian market and eat away at routes SN could be operating...
Primera is one... Norwegian may be another one... but there is a lot more... a few years ago there was no service to Iceland... and next summer there will be 3 flights a day on some days... and make no mistake... many or most of those pax are connecting to North America simply because SN's service pretty much doesn't exist... so LH would rather let other airlines eat away at the potential SN market share than keep it in the LH group.... very sad!

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2018
The only reason is cheap labour contracts. EW-SN contracts are by far the worst you can find in Europe.JustPlanes wrote: ↑18 Sep 2018, 06:37 Pretty amazing that the huge Lufthansa and Eurowings needs little Brussels Airlines to operate their long haul flights out of DUS... Brussels Airlines invests further in its Africa network, and axes Mumbai (which should be reached via FRA, MUC or ZRH with LH and LX, so decides the boss! One less intercontinental destination for BRU).
