Air Belgium in 2018

Re: Air Belgium in 2018
Thanks big bird for the information, can you keep us updated when you know the precise schedule of the flight BRU-CRL ? I would like to take pictures of the first arrival at Charleroi.
Re: Air Belgium in 2018
A bit harsh no?
Rescue flights and last minute charters are often late because of non familiar equipment, rest requirements for crew, traffic right issues,...
Let’s wait and judge once they started scheduled operations, shall we?

No, I don't. But I'd be pleased to learn: that's what a forum is for.

Re: Air Belgium in 2018
A few years ago The Aviation Factory had to reposition a CRJ200 from BRU to ANR. They offered all the available seats for free to anyone who responded to their Facebook invitation. I was on this flight and had a very nice experience, even though it was an evening flight in darkness.
It might be a good publicity stunt for Air Belgium as well to offer all seats on this BRU-CRL flight for free. They would get a lot of free publicity for it in the Belgian media, I think.

Re: Air Belgium in 2018
An excellent suggestion, @Established02! But wouldn't it add extra requirements like cabin crew, facilities for check-in/check-out, and likely more that I can't think of? Apart from the cost (which might well be very much justified indeed!) there would be the hassle of organising all that on the short term...

If I remember well, VG Airlines did two pax flights BRU-OST-BRU before the first schedule flight in 2002.jan_olieslagers wrote: ↑09 Apr 2018, 19:18 An excellent suggestion, @Established02! Yes, indeed . I was one of the lucky passengers who won a radio quiz for that flight BRU-OST-BRU on the A330 VG Airlines. At OST we had a lunch for free while the crew did touch and go's and after 2 hours we did the flight back to BRU . landing on rwy 01 .Boeing767copilot wrote: ↑09 Apr 2018, 20:34 If I remember well, VG Airlines did two pax flights BRU-OST-BRU before the first schedule flight in 2002.
I think there was about 100 passengers on that flight , also a few flight attendants and Freddy Van Gaever (VG)

How free is free though?
You still need to pay taxes and BRU isn't cheap.
I agree that operational issues are understandable for charters. A 2-hour delay is acceptable especially for long haul holiday destinations.
I hoped for them to launch as a true disruptor and on routes like TYO but at these fares I'm going to stick to flying OW.

OW? That would be the now-defunct Puerto Rican "Executive Airlines", flying under the colors of AA...Flanker3 wrote: ↑09 Apr 2018, 23:53 How free is free though?

OW is the IATA code for Skyward Express Kenya.Vic Diesel wrote: ↑10 Apr 2018, 11:12OW? That would be the now-defunct Puerto Rican "Executive Airlines", flying under the colors of AA...Flanker3 wrote: ↑09 Apr 2018, 23:53 How free is free though?

With CX offering BRU-HKG at not overly expensive rates, this could be a reason to turn my back to Star Alliance - although for me TG is also in the race (although BRU-BKK-HKG would be less convenient of course).

Re: Air Belgium in 2018
Now that seems odd, because they were founded in 2010 and Executive Airlines flew with the IATA designator "OW" until it ended its flight services in 2013. I wonder whether the Kenyans used a different - if any - IATA code before that date.Passenger wrote: ↑10 Apr 2018, 11:36OW is the IATA code for Skyward Express Kenya.Vic Diesel wrote: ↑10 Apr 2018, 11:12OW? No BRU-CRL flight before at least the end of this week. Air Belgium will announce officially the day & schedule of the flight publicly for the spotter's community

Re: Air Belgium in 2018
There is a (new) fully operational Sabena Aerospace facility in CRL specially opened for Air Belgium. So maintenance is not the reason why they stay at BRU untill the end of the week... Unless they are having a major maintenance issue at the moment that can't be fixed at CRL. But that isn't the case. Apparently they are awaiting some "paperwork" from CRL in order to station the aircrafts there. Probably end of the week, tommorow or friday, they will transfer the aircrafts to CRL.
Re: Air Belgium in 2018
Do they have enough space at CRL to park the aircraft without interfering with normal operations? I could imagine having them sit on stands that could be making more money by actually being used by commercial flights, makes more sense.
