Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2018
From Eurocontrol: Industrial action at Marseille ACC planned for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Impact not yet clear but there will be at least a 'minimum service'. More information when we get it.
Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2018
A 24-hour strike in the air transport sector could affect the schedule of Alitalia flights on 19 January. Flights set to operate on 19 January during the peak times between 7 am to 10 am and from 6 pm to 9 pm (Italy’s time) will operate as scheduled. Alitalia was therefore forced to cancel several flights on 19 January.
Apparently, no flights to Belgium are affected.

Aviapartner spontaneous work stoppage by baggage handling employees: https://www.aviation24.be/ground-handlin ... s-airport/
Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2018
The never ending story.... those baggage handling companies in BRU must be the most badly run in all of Europe.
Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2018
Airlines that sign a contract with these companies must be very happy with the quality of the service provided. Is not it to 25 million passengers that an airport can claim a 3rd company?

*UPDATE* Aviapartner strike: agreement has been reached. Return to normal handling activity as from tomorrow Saturday. Passengers affected by today's strike are requested NOT to come to the airport to recover their luggage, but to wait for their airline to contact them.

On 26th Jan 2018, the ground handling licenses from Aviapartner and SwissPort have been renewed for another year. They were issued on 1st February 2016 for just one year, and were renewed last year too with one year extra:

Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2018
I know from people working at baggage reclaim that it was a complete disaster yesterday: thousands and thousands of bags did not arrive and need to be delivered or sent to other airports. It will take WEEKS before the last bag will be dealt with. Absolute scandalous, these selfish strikers don't realise what enormous problems they cause for their co-workers at the airport and the passengers. They just don't care.
Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2018
Aviapartner still hasn't published its annual accounts 2016, but SwissPort has. In brief: "terrible" on a scale good-normal-bad. But luckily for the employees, the SwissPort shareholders have been willing to invest another 12.000.000 Euro cash (5mio on 28/12/2016 and 7mio on 18/12/2017).
When two handling companies can't make a profit, a third one can't make a profit either. Maybe it's time for Brussels Airport to intervene, keeping in mind Europe's competition rules of course. The ongoing battle between both isn't in the interest of the airlines and the passengers. No investment is possible in new equipment. Six strikes during the last 2 years. And a risk of liquidation which would cause massive disruption for multiple Thousands of passengers.
