Turkish Airlines posts 1H net loss of $644M
Turkish Airlines recorded a net loss of 1.894 million lira ($644 million) for the first half-year ended June 30, compared to a profit of 1.035 million lira for the same period a year ago.
The Star Alliance member had experienced “challenging conditions” in the tourism sector, including series of terrorist bombings in Turkey, which depressed yields further due to decreased local demand, Turkish Airlines reported in its consolidated balance sheet statement.

I would add that the political situation does not encourage visits to the country, or even a transit through IST...

Re: News from THY - Turkish Airlines
Turkish Airlines reports sales revenue down 6.1% to US$7.5 billion and net loss of $463 million for first nine months of 2016 (vs. a profit of over $800 million in 2015), with cash and cash equivalents of US$1.3 billion. For 3Q, revenue fell 10.3% to $2.9 million and net income fell 60.9% to $184 million.
It looks like the recent events took a big toll on Turkish, when Pegasus (less tied to the Government) still shows a profit.

Turkish Airlines has taken eight Airbus A330-200s out of service as part of a sublease plan to cut costs following a net loss of $463 million in the first nine months of 2016, reversed from a net profit of $877 in the year-ago period.sn26567 wrote:Turkish Airlines reports sales revenue down 6.1% to US$7.5 billion and net loss of $463 million for first nine months of 2016 (vs. a profit of over $800 million in 2015).
The losses were a result of weakening demand across its network and economic instability because of geopolitical events in Turkey and the region.
