Dear All,
Does somebody know how to reduce or eliminate the problem with the atmospheric convection (heat distortion).
It appears when I take pictures with my 300 mm from the top of a building and the planes are a bit far.
Should I use a filter?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Best regards,
Sergioboeing

just bought the special Carrefour offer Nikon D3000 kit with 1 standard 18-55 lens for 299 euro.
So after 10 years I return to the reflex camera instead of the stupid small digital rubbish.
Questions:
So after 10 years I return to the reflex camera instead of the stupid small digital rubbish.
Questions:
- which lens is capable to do already some spotting from a good spotting place? ( and please please please, don't reply that I bought the crappiest SLR in the world...I just found out the stamping "made in Thailand ")
which SD card should I purchase?
Re: How to make good pictures: share your experience
Get yourself a Nikon 70-300 VR (prices <400€) and you'll be more then happy to start with it. And an SDcard of 4Mb is good to start with. I see it's 10Mpixels so in NEF you can put more than 200 pics on one card.regi wrote:just bought the special Carrefour offer Nikon D3000 kit with 1 standard 18-55 lens for 299 euro.

to share...meaning, that you can use my camera? Nope. Just to protect you, if its brakes , you pay me a new one.Bottie wrote:Care to share?regi wrote:first experience is already top top, even if this camera is discribed as the starter camera.
Or to share meaning that I put my pictures on the web? OK.

I assume you're talking about a lens for spotting... If so, the Canon 70-200 F4/L is hard to beat (the non-IS version is quite affordable compared to the other L series).DAT202D wrote:Anyone that could recommend a good lens for the Canon 600D ?

Although the picture quality is very good, I often feel I'm lacking range with 70-200. You may want to consider the 70-300 instead.

I take my pictures with a Nikon D3200.
I have 2 lenses, the standard 18-55mm kitlens and the Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD.
I would like to ask you, the experienced spotters and photographers is a zoomrange of 300mm is enough to get some descend pictures of airplanes

It really depends on the situation you're in (e.g. the landing of a big 747 versus the air display of a small F16), but in general 300mm will help you out a long way.KoenMol wrote: zoomrange of 300mm is enough to get some descend pictures of airplanes
Other question: can someone recommend a good freeware photo editing program that can also handle the RAW format?

i know one, but your computer must run on Linux for it.
If you have Linux you can install darktable, its free and almost the same as Lightroom

Thanks, that's the one that caught my attention in the article.KoenMol wrote:If you have Linux you can install darktable, its free and almost the same as Lightroom
Unfortunately I have no experience with Linux though, but I keep on reading from IT nerds that they're very happy with it. Maybe one day I'll dig into it as well.

a way to do it is to install a Linux in VM-Ware on your windows machine and then work in that.
If you google it, normaly you could find a complete how to on the subject
