Hi all,
After a long time of inactivity, I finally got the chance to go spotting again. Following weather predictions, Dusseldorf came out as the best option. We left at 02:30 to get there by 06:00. Weather was slightly cloudy at first, but cleared up completely afterwards. I selected 40 of my shots to share with you all. Hope you like them !
06:00 - 12:00
Approach runway 05R
Around 12:00, operations changed to runways 23, with landing and departure on 23L, so we moved to the observation deck. Unfortunately some clouds had also found their way to Düsseldorf
Is this the first European 737 with scimitar winglets
Operations changed back to runways 05, just in time for this one
As of 16:00, you start to look into the sun from the observation deck and at that time aircraft started landing on 05L.
So we picked up our gear, headed back for the car and started looking for a spot to see the arrivals on 05L. And some time later, we found it ...
Our luck again ! All aircraft were landing on 05L. Where does the Emirates land ? 05R of course... Happy I still managed to snap this shot in-between some trees.
We had agreed to head back home once the Emirates 777 had landed, but one of our German colleagues stopped us saying the next one would be something special.
Only seconds after it had passed us, the cloud disappeared behind the clouds of the approaching thunderstorm. Although I don't have any pictures, I can tell you the ride home was an adventure on its own as we drove right through the massive storm that was between Maastricht and Düsseldorf.
All in all an excellent day at DUS !
Hope you enjoyed the shots,

Some nice birds to catch up there.
Never seen a split scimitar here in Europe, so frankly speaking, I don't know if the TUI Haribo is the first one.
I'm also surprised to see an Air Berlin in Darwin colours!
And a Russian official visiting DUS? I thought they all went to Berlin...

Hi Andre,
Rossiya is a normal pax airline operating from LED,... Nothing governmental.. You see them often in AMS...
Darwin in Air Berlin ? This is an S2000 from ethad regional operated by Darwin in ex OLT colours, see the arrows ...
Split scimitar, saw never a real one.. So guess this is the very very first on an old B738 ,... Did it a receive a C check recently in Seatlle ?
Nice pics, hope to log a real livery in september of the S2000 in september

Hi,
Seems you had a nice day Andries. Some specials (as always for DUS)
and THE catch of the day must idd be that 'scimitar' wingletted B737.
To be perfectly honest with you I didn't even realize they already flew commercially (thought that would only be introduced for the B737 'MAX' or still in experimental phase) ... let alone in Europe ... so you might very well have caught the first ... who knows ...?

Hi,
As far as I know, G-FDZF, PH-TFB, PH-TFC, D-STUD are equipped with scimitar winglets.

Nice pics! Really need to go once to DUS as well. It has been too long...
I've had the pleasure to be parked next to D-ATUI (a 'normal' Tuifly) in Las Palmas last week. It also had the split scimitars. Seems Tuifly has already some of them flying around by now.

Rossiya left AMS already in OCT2012.
But they have plans to come back. At least that is what I heard.
Greetings,
All my posted timings are local !
