Seattle, we have a problem!
A Boeing 747 Dreamlifter landed on a wrong airfield, 14 km away from original McConell AFB it landed on Jabarra airfield, which is closed now...
Boeing has send a tow truck as it can't take off from there as the runway is way too short, 1.8 km instead of the needed 3km..
Quite a story

Btw, mind that these flights are not operated by Boeing itself, it started with Evergreen I believe, but currently the Dreamlifters are operated by Atlas Air on behalf of Boeing.
Re: Dreamlifter with a problem...
Tow truck just needed to turn the Dreamlifter, succesfully done right now. Stating a Wichita spokesman, a team of experts of Boeing, Atlas and the airport, the Dreamlifter should be able to take off even with the limited runway length as it is not fully loaded. Allthough all variable parameters (like wind) should be OK. They wait for full daylight however to do a visual inspection of the runway to check for damage done during landing (runway not calculated for this heavy weight plane)
New crew also brought in from New York to Jabarra to replace the old one.
Jabarra closed till Dreamlifter takes off.

My daughter lives in Wichita, about 3 miles (5 km) from Jabarra Airport and she sent me this link with 3 stories from the Wichita Eagle newspaper - interesting. I wonder if the US unemployment ranks grew by 2 more people?

Perhaps not the end. What actions might the pilots find themselves taking as they explain the situation.cathay belgium wrote:AIRBORNE !!! -THE END -
In all fairness to the pilots, there are 3 airports within 8 miles (13km); all have runways that line up on the same coordinates. The Beechcraft Airport, however is slightly to the right of the line between Jabarra and McConnell. If you go to https://maps.google.com/ and look at the East side of Wichita, you'll see what I mean.
Landing at Jabarra (instead of McConnell or Beechcraft has happpened before, but not by such a large plane.
Re: Dreamlifter with a problem...
No, the end is when it landed safely at its intended destination, McConnell. A few minutes after it took off from Jabara...cathay belgium wrote:AIRBORNE !!! -THE END -

Re: Dreamlifter with a problem...
Actually, there's a 5th airport inside the city limits of Wichita - Cessna Field. It sits immediately north of McConnell AFB (just across Salina Drive) and is where Cessna makes many of its single engine aircraft.quixoticguide wrote:And 4 airports in 12 miles !
