The new order book this week lists 14 unidentified and 3 Business Jet customers for 747's
Most likely 747-I models, the business jet customers are likely leases.

There are no strangers in the world, just friends we have yet to meet.
just a guess and only a guess, but I'd say Qatar pax.
apparently there is a little war going on between Etihad,Qatar, and Emirates about who's going to get thier A380's first, if at all?
And one other possibility is UPS, who are not getting their 380's until 2010 or later.

I thought Emirates will get their A380s first? Wasn't that the case from the beginning?bits44 wrote:just a guess and only a guess, but I'd say Qatar pax.

Well that's a good question, this article seems to think Etihad is getting theirs first?

I think another and possibly much more interesting mystery is the huge order for the 737's also listed as unidentified.

There is also a definite war going on between Air France and Lufthansa. AF delayed their order, Luft did not.
Now Air France wants their and first.
Of real behind the scenes interest, is more orders for the 767. People are taking a look at slots and realize that they need them now. Airbus will be seeing a surge in A330s (and a few A340s).
Its a nice deal for Boeing as that profit center adds to the books (Airbus is probably going to be offset by having to provide interim aircraft ).
This also makes Boeing life easier in regards to the tanker contract.

The article said Ethiad will take the development aircrafts, while Emirates apparently are going for brand new ones?bits44 wrote:Well that's a good question, this article seems to think Etihad is getting theirs first?

But wait, did Ethiad chose EA or RR engines? There is only one EA powered A380 now right?
Looks like there are some new 767 orders as well. That suprised me.
...........The buyers of the remaining aircraft added this week to Boeing’s 2006 order book - 13 747s and the four 767s - are unidentified.
In the year to October 3, Boeing has now recorded 539 net orders for its 737, 111 for the 787, 41 for its 747 widebody, 24 for its 777, and eight for the 767................

Theres nothing better than slow cooked fall off the bone BBQ, Texas style
14 of these birds are freighters all along. Man, I was hoping for a Pax order for the B747-8 Anyways, its been a good year for Boeing in terms of orders, they only predicted to get around 320 orders this year, and they have almost reached their record setting pace from last year. The B787 is selling very well for Boeing, and this doesn't include the major airlines from Europe and the United States, times will be interesting in the next few months and years.
Looks almost definite that 10 of the 747-8F orders were from Emirates.
Good to know there is at least one (or more) firms taking the other 4.
767 is a good bird, just not as capable as the A330. If you don't need that capability, then its a natural choice and fit with existing fleets. And with the foreseeable shortage of good birds (all those aircraft that have to be used as gap fillers for the A380 order delay), they can sell them at a good price when they upgrade.
The 747 pax will sell, they said the same thing about the 777-200LR, and its doing well now its launched. Boeing got the range back even with the longer version of the 747pax, so they can have their cake and eat it as well. Its a big commitment, and while it will not directly compete with the A380, it is compared to it on the price, and the price is very very very good on the A380. At some point Airbus has to sell it at rational prices, but you have to think long and hard when you are going to pay 200 million for a plane that seats fewer people than one that is going for 130-150 million (and that doesn’t count the delay penaties that are taking it lower still.)

Several monthas ago, I talked with a marketing official from Aviation Partners (manufacturers of the Boeing 737 winglet) and asked about their plans for winglets for the 767. He said that Icelandic Airlines has said they'd order 767 winglets for their 767-300's when available.
Aviation Partners was looking for a 767-300 to lease for 12 months for flight testing, but could not find one due to its' popularity with airlines. When I asked what kind of fuel efficiency could be expected, he said that Aeroflot was the heaviest user of the 767 (flight hours per month) and that they'd save about $500,000 per month in fuel costs per plane! That is a lot of money!
Anyway, this useage just shows how popular the 767 is and how airlines still consider them viable on many routes. Of course, the A330-200 is more capable and will sell against the 767, but be at a disadvantage against the B787.
