I doubt that SN have too much staff to send to LH and or EW if they are taking over 160 pilots and cabin crew from Thomas Cook to serve these destinations. Besides that, if there is an A330 from SN AOG in DUS, there will be a major logistic operation to get these passengers to their destinations if you don't have an excess A330 standing at DUS.

The slogan heart of Europe works also for Dusseldorf....Yuqu12 wrote: ↑24 Sep 2017, 14:38Ofcourse this can be, but it is in some way a contradiction if you are named Brussels Airlines and your slogan is: We fly you to the heart of Europe, meaning Brussels, but you also fly to Düsseldorf. Besides that, what is the gain for SN to start flying from DUS? They should better try and get these flights from DUS to BRU and expand at their home market, rather than starting something new in another country.lumumba wrote: ↑24 Sep 2017, 12:15Why not I don't see the reason it can not fly from another airport with Brussels in it's name.Yuqu12 wrote: ↑24 Sep 2017, 10:50 How can they operate being Brussels Airlines under the Eurowings brand from Düsseldorf? Is it then really a SN colour scheme flying for EW? The most logical to me is that if LH takes over these planes and use them for EW, they'll have the EW colour scheme. It would make absolutely no sense that the name "Brussels Airlines" starts flying from another airport than Brussels Airport.
Anyway if the company expands you can change your slogan.
Hasta la victoria siempre.

I'd prefer them opening new routes from BRU instead though
Re: Air Berlin files for insolvency as Etihad pulls funding plug
The Air Berlin sale is expected to bring in enough money to repay the government bridging loan of €150 million, as the creditors’ committee expects a total sale amount between €300-400 million.
Indeed, Lufthansa reportedly bid a price of €200 million to buy assets from insolvent Air Berlin plus €100 million to meet operating costs. A deal could be three months between signing a purchasing contract and implementing the transaction due to regulatory approval.

- TUIfly will receive 14 Boeing 737
- All long-haul jets will be given back to the appropriate leasing companies.

Apparently 2 ex-Air Berlin a/c are going to Brussels Airlines, they should be operational before the start of the 2018 summer season.

How about EW? Are they going to take over some A330 to take over the long-haul operations from Air Berlin?

Let's hope the judge will order that the liquidators have to reinburse the passengers who are/were stranded by cancelled flights.sn26567 wrote: ↑25 Sep 2017, 11:01 The Air Berlin sale is expected to bring in enough money to repay the government bridging loan of €150 million, as the creditors’ committee expects a total sale amount between €300-400 million.

"Pure speculation", a Brussels Airlines spokesman told aviation24.beDannyVDB wrote: ↑24 Sep 2017, 10:05 On airliners.net, the same rumour is repeated:
"some A330-200s could, however, make a return if the rumour is correct that Lufthansa has already struck a deal with AerCap for some of them. If that is the case, it seems the most likely that they will end up with Brussels Airlines that will operate them under the Eurowings brand from DUS. Some of the lost longhaul capacity will also be replaced by Condor"
Don't know what to think about it. Why not just deploying from BRU?

Austrian Airlines intends to integrate five A320s which are currently operated under wet-lease by Air Berlin, but the plan is dependent on the latter’s negotiations with Austrian’s parent Lufthansa.

Air Berlin and easyJet talks over the sale of up to 30 planes are reportedly at risk of falling apart, with the UK airline reducing its offer for the planes to €50 million.
Air Berlin extended the bid deadline for its maintenance division to allow potential buyers to adapt their offers depending on the outcome of talks for its other assets. Bids for Air Berlin Technik will now be taken in the week beginning 16 October 2017.
Air Berlin unions say about 1,400 employees are threatened by dismissal, with the entire ground staff due to get their termination notices by end October 2017.

Air Berlin to end flights by 28 October 2017 at the latest, urging staff to seek jobs elsewhere while it works toward a carve-up of its assets.
