Air Belgium in 2020?
No, please. I had enough of that 2020.
I wish you all a happy and healthy 2021.

Air Belgium has deregistered its A340 OO-ABE.
Contacted by Aviation24.be, spokeswoman Catherine Haquenne said: "Air Belgium has decided to de-register and no longer integrate this aircraft in its active fleet. The fleet will evolve at the end of the winter season and depending on the recovery planned for summer 2021."

Re: Air Belgium in 2021
If I'm not mistaken, Air Belgium has already made a lot of cargo flights during the 1st containment. And not later than the beginning of January OO-ABA made two round trips from LGG to JFK.

Cargo is more predictable and at current rate a much more profitable business I suppose

Re: Air Belgium in 2021
Official press release :
The Air Belgium fleet will soon expand with the arrival of cargo aircraft
Mont-Saint-Guibert, January 29th, 2021
Several months ago, already, the airline Air Belgium had announced its desire to diversify into cargo.
Today, the company announces that it will soon introduce 4 cargo aircraft with an ambition of 6 units by the end of 2021.
The first two aircraft should be operational as of March 2021. The first aircraft will be based at Liege Airport.
At the same time, the airline will of course continue its passenger flights to the French West Indies.
"In such an uncertain period, this is good news for the airline. We are delighted to be able to begin this diversification into the commercial and cargo sector, which my team and I know well. This will complement our existing passenger business which has been severely impacted by the current travel restrictions. This demonstrates once again the resilience and flexibility of our airline's development potential. As well as the ever-growing attractiveness of Liege Airport." - CEO of Air Belgium, Niky Terzakis.

Any idea from where they will get the aircrafts? Leased or owned?

Re: Air Belgium in 2021
And any idea about the type ?
Re: Air Belgium in 2021
In one article they mention A330. Haven’t seen it confirmed anywhere else.
Re: Air Belgium in 2021
I hope for them it will be A330's, with only 3 aircraft at the moment and they already have 3 operational bases BRU, CRL and LGG while they only plan to fly to 3 destination. So I hope for them they will not complex even more their cost by adding other aircraft type.
Re: Air Belgium in 2021
A330 is the only logical choice for crew commonality purposes. They will be leased unless they received a recent cash infusion and can afford the deposit on owned aircraft. The market for freighters is obviously very tight. Either they have been working on this deal for quite a while, or they will start with two ACMI aircraft while waiting for passenger models to finish conversion to freighter.

It will be 4 A330-200 ex-Qatar
