Kalitta 747-400 Dumping fuel
Kalitta 747-400 N740CK is dumping fuel at this moment. I heard multiple successive explosions as the aircraft past overhead.
Re: Kalitta 747-400 Dumping fuel

Heard it as well

Meise, Merchtem, Opwijk as it was climbing out. The engine was shut down around Opwijk when the explosions stopped. It shows similarities to a birdstrike however the aircraft was already quite high, although not impossible for it to still be a birdstrike it might indicate that something else may be the cause.

Not higher than 7,000 feet, according to flightradar24BigJets wrote: ↑29 Mar 2019, 22:19 Meise, Merchtem, Opwijk as it was climbing out. Compressor stall engine number 4: https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/kali ... s-airport/
Re: Kalitta 747-400 Dumping fuel
Luchtzak, you're right, the Kalitta levelled at 7,000 feet. What I mean is that only about 10% of all birdstrikes are above 3,500 feet altitude and the explosions occurred at around 5 to 6,000 feet.
The aircraft is now on it's way to Brussels

Re: Kalitta 747-400 Dumping fuel
Isn’t it common to declare emergency after a compressor stall? But to go and dump fuel over the North Sea, and then going 2000km or so to LEJ at 7000ft... seems a bit excessive when you’re passing all sorts of alternates, no?
Re: Kalitta 747-400 Dumping fuel
3 engines still running, and perhaps maintenance bay in Leipzig ?
Re: Kalitta 747-400 Dumping fuel
I think I just easy for the Cargo to be overloaded to another plane going to the USA.
Hasta la victoria siempre.
