British Airways saga in Riyadh

Post by Flanker2 »

BA pax faced 2 consecutive emergency landings on a single B747 from Riyadh bound for LHR, after it had some flap issues.

After waiting for 5 hours for their delayed flight at the airport, boarding, dumping fuel and returning to Riyadh on a hard landing, the pax were told to come back at 3am, without being taken care of to find a hotel.

The pax showed up at 3 am for nothing as their second flight was delayed until almost 9am.
They eventually took off, only to dump fuel and return to Riyadh.

Once arrived at Riyadh, 70 pax organised a sit-in and refused to leave the aircraft unless they could talk to a BA representative. Due to the unbearable heat, some pax became ill and started leaving the aircraft.

BA has then finally communicated with them and are sending them another aircraft, while also taking care of their expenses and refunding their fare.

I think that that is the least they could do.
Shame on British Airways.

The Aviation Herald made two separate reports on the incident, one for each day:

The passengers finally arrived in London on an alternate plane 52 hours late!

British Airways has promised compensation to all passengers involved.

The incident aircraft positioned back to London on Aug 10th as flight BA-9177 with a delay of 72 hours but has not yet resumed service.
