Boeing and Air Canada announced an order today for two additional 777-300ER (Extended Range) airplanes. The order, previously listed as unidentified on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries website, is valued at $660 million at list prices.

The 777-300ER continues to provide our customers with unmatched economics and efficiencies,” said Brad McMullen, vice president, North America Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We appreciate Air Canada’s confidence in the airplane as they grow their 777 fleet."

The 777 is the world's most successful twin-engine, long-haul airplane. The 777-300ER is equipped with the world's most powerful GE90-115BL commercial jet engine, with a maximum range of 7,825 nautical miles (14,490 kilometers).

The 777-300ER is the most popular member of the 777 family, accumulating more than 750 orders from more than 40 customers worldwide to date.

But what about passenger comfort? After all, these B777-300ERs will be dense with 458 seats !

I've read very bad comments on these seats. I'm a little bit afraid for my flight from Montréal to Paris!

It all comes down to money...109 additional seats on the same aircraft. And it works, it started with the success of Montreal-Paris, previously a high volume, low profit route due to the low yields, since they introduced the high density 77W it's one of their highly profitable routes. Biggest change of course is the 10-abreast instead of 9 and legroom is also limited with just 31".

But for example KLM is not that far from that 458 number either with 425 seats and that's their only, standard 77W configuration. Their economy class is not much better (if better at all...), but they have more Premium Economy in their 777's.
