Pegasus Airlines applied to Ukraine’s aviation authorities for approval as a national carrier. Really? However Ukraine denied it received an application.

Pegasus Airlines also plans to launch service from Ankara to Baku (Azerbaijan).

Pegasus plans to establish a major base at the new Istanbul airport scheduled to open late 2018, with a “considerable fleet” at the airport after a third runway opens in about 2020. Carrier also plans to add further flights at Sabiha Gokcen.

Moreover, Pegasus intends to increase its fleet from 77 aircraft now to 125 in 2023, including 25 options it plans to convert. The fleet is 2023 to consist of 100 A320neo family aircraft and 25 older B737s. A321neos to begin arriving in 2019, with no interest in LR variant, according to CCO Guliz Ozturk.

Pegasus Airlines is considering setting up a subsidiary in Ukraine and may also increase its order for A321neos. Talks are ongoing with Kiev over the potential joint venture, which would be majority owned by Ukrainian investors and would fly under a Ukrainian AOC.

Pegasus has received from the Turkish Government an incentive certificate worth more than €5 billion to invest in 167 planes. The certificate will be exempt from customs tariffs and includes tax reductions.

In the EU this would be considered as illegal state aid...
