According to FR24, the Milan arrival went in the holding over CRL around 09:50 LT, and after a couple of holds diverted to LGG.

Website is simply overloaded, newspapers put the link in their 'hot news' items, so thousands of extra website-visitors purely out of curiosity. Not easy to plan for such an activity increase as a website administrator...

Said to have had a problem at take-of and crashed - on the side of the runway - when attempting to land back.

Anybody knows the actual MET-conditions at the time of the accident.
Seems to me that the current BR FEW001 BKN045 M02/M03 isn't that good for GA flying.
Makes me remember 30+ yrs. ago Shannon to Lydd, witnessing firsthand the ice accumulation on the main wheels, struts and leading edge of a C172. Luckily we were at FL70, so descending was our 'easy' way out of trouble. (The lower altitude meant a higher than planned fuel consumption, giving us a more than expected surprise after refueling. )

Seems now from news-reports that the accident happened shortly after take-off, so probably in-flight ice build-up was not a factor. And it seems this AC was equipped with LE de-icing boot

My daughter and her family were supposed to take that flight to Lanzarote from CRL. They are now on a bus from CRL to LGG. That means that the logistics is functioning.

The five victims are a grandfather, his daughter-in-law and her three children born in 2005, 2006 and 2010. A family of Uccle. They were bound to Lyon. May they rest in peace!

It appears that the plane had ice on its wings. Lack of de-icing before departure?

The US registration of the plane refers to its owner, White Mountain Corp. of Wilmington, Delaware.

Do you really think any skilled pilot would leave with ice on the wings before departure?
This guy was not a newbee.

Ice accumulation during the initial climb is more plausible... although nobody can confirm it... and nobody will ever be able to be 100% sure about that!

At the 19.00 RTL-TVI news : the airport agent who handled the flight said he has offered the pilot to de-ice the aircraft, but the pilot refused. He has seen the aircraft "fall like a brick".

Based on the comment above from airazurxtror he did indeed. You don't have to be a newbee to do stupid things you know. How many serious crashes happened in the past due to pilot errors while the involved pilot(s) actually had tons of experience?!
The thing is that they often THINK the know everything better than the rest and in this case he might(!!) have tought he "could handle that 'small' amount of ice". Just to say...
