Re: brussels airlines to New York!
Sorry, I forgot one point, werknemer. You say that mh pax connecting to the US don't bring money. You have to see things in a more nuanced way. Medium haul pax (from Europe usually) transferring onto a flight to the US don't bring a lot of money, but they do bring some money. All airlines are offering cheap flights to the US also to connecting pax, because without them they would have a hard time filling the planes and these airlines are also convinced that it is better to get a little money from those pax rather than no money at all because of empty seats. Some flights (USA) don't bring a lot of money, but their purpose is to feed other flights (AFI) so that these can be (even more) profitable. Generally speaking one should not take the performance of a flight in isolation, you have to have a more holistic approach and see the network as a whole (again, generally speaking, if you are network carrier).

Re: brussels airlines to New York!
Concerning the presence of AA/DL/9W on the NYC route ex BRU, I don't thnik SN wants to target 9W. I wouldn't be surprised, however, if an increasing number of pax flying BRU-NYC opt for 9W because in both classes they have a superior product compared to AA/DL (I flew AA, DL and 9W across the Atlantic : imo 9W is the best airline). So, it's up to b.air to offer the best product if they want to take business away from other airlines across the pond.
As to AA and DL, I don't know if it's true, but I have heard that both airlines have enough corporate contracts so far to justify their presence in BRU (although with smaller aircraft in some cases). And they both not only provide point-to-point traffic, but they also offer many connections at their gateways. Again, don't just look at a particular flight in isolation : it's part of a network. Same for SN.

Re: brussels airlines to New York!
Don't worry, someone on this forum will surely tell us when the flights really start to operate and when sales for the NYC flight will begin. Patience, patience..... Why in the meantime not spoil yourself with a brussels airlines flight to Nairobi (add a safari) or Dakar (soaking up the sun in winter) ?

Re: brussels airlines to New York!
A dream safari after a CDG-BRU-NBO would be great but I really would have liked flying to the US on SN metal this summer...
However, as we got no news from the sales start, I think I won't be able to make it as X-mas present...

That's what SN is telling me for over a month now... That sales are starting very soon, sales are imminent, etc...airbuske wrote: Sales will start very soon
Yet, still no news
Re: brussels airlines to New York!
Perhaps a bit off topic, but KLM has cancelled Miami as from end of March 2012
(it's now 4 times a week, MD-11).

Re: brussels airlines to New York!
With low season coming (end of January + the whole month of February) , prices to NYC are dirt cheap. €376 with Delta , even cheaper with 1 stop ( US Airways) . I wonder what Brussels will charge this Christmas!

Airline Route reminded the last Sabena schedule for Winter 2001 on that route (I am surprised that the traditional flight numbers SN541/8 were no longer used):
