Has the first 7-(l)8-7 been delivered by now?
And what about the 747-8F? What is all the commotion with Cargolux and Atlas Air? Apparantly these customers are not happy with the performance promised by Boeing...

Boeing and ANA will celebrate delivery of the first 787 Dreamliner on Sept. 26 in Everett, Wash., after contractual delivery occurs on Sept. 25. ANA’s airplane will arrive in Tokyo on Sept. 28, following a Sept. 27 departure from Everett.OO-ITR wrote:Has the first 7-(l)8-7 been delivered by now?

ANA takes ownership of first 787
Boeing Co. handed over the keys for its first 787 wide-body jet to All Nippon Airways on Monday after years of delays. Thousands of workers gathered for the ceremony at Paine Field, outside the building where the planes are assembled, with many finding shelter from the rain under the wings of two yet-to-be-delivered 787s. The actual first ANA 787 was nearby at the Future of Flight aviation center, where it was being prepared for a reception Monday night and its flight to Japan on Tuesday.

Re: Boeing 787 and B748 nearing first delivery
First 787 delivered to ANA is 11 (US short) tons overweight !
The first Boeing 787 Dreamliner delivered to launch customer All Nippon Airways last month was nearly 11 tons overweight, an aviation journal is reporting.
Aspire Aviation says the plane's avoirdupois is the subject of a diet that is gradually squeezing excess pounds out of the the later planes in the production process. It may take until plane 90, however, that all the extra poundage is eliminated, Aspire said.
To add to the woes of the first planes out of the factory, aviation sources say the new engines mounted on the first production Dreamliners aren't meeting their fuel economy promises. They use 2 to 4% too much fuel.

Re: Boeing 787 and B748 nearing first delivery
Since when is 21,500lb 11tons? According to my math 21,500lb equals ±9,7 tons, still a huge amount nevertheless... :s
Re: Boeing 787 and B748 nearing first delivery
This is an American article, and the calculation shows that 21,500 lbs equals 10.75 US short tons. But I will change the title of the post to make it clear.

Re: Boeing 787 and B748 nearing first delivery
I tougt it was the first 787, so ZA001, that was so much overweight and the first one for ANA 'just' 6-7 tons. Anyway still way too much, but not enterly unexpected...
Re: Boeing 787 and B748 nearing first delivery
In related news, a Saudi man had to be hospitalized due to shock after he saw his fiancee's face (without niqab) for the first time. The poor man called off the engagement and wedding. Unlike ANA, which knew quite well what they were getting, and they get plenty of compensation for their big-boned cutie.

Re: Boeing 787 and B748 nearing first delivery
Meanwhile the second 748F is delivered to Cargolux and according to several sources the second 787 for ANA is delivered, delivery flight was on 15 October.
Other news is that the first 787 for United left the final assembly line, it's sheduled to be delivered to UA after July 1 2012. Also, United now expects 5 787's in 2012 and not 6. UA declined to comment on the reason for this.

Re: Boeing 787 and B748 nearing first delivery
As the busy testing period for the RR 787's (with Package A engines, ZA004 with the Package B engines is still bussy with test flights) is finished, Boeing decided it was the right moment to repaint the 3th 787 (ZA003) in the full dreamliner livery.
So now there are 2 787's in full dreamliner livery (ZA001 and ZA003), one in ANA colors (ZA002) and the rest (ZA004, ZA005 and ZA006 wich are all still in full testing to certify the GE engines and the RR Package B engines) in hybrid Boeing livery.
Normally the oldest testing 787's will stay with Boeing to continue all kind of testing (upgrades, new systems, new technologies,...), only the last 2-3 are possibly going to VIP clients. The first 3 787's are commercially completely worthless (WAY too heavy, have had an extremely amount of rework, ...) so it's logicall Boeing keeps them for testing and as a result it is logicall they get the full dreamliner livery.

Re: Boeing 787 and B748 nearing first delivery
Boeing provided some information on twitter about the re-paint. They say they have "big plans" with ZA003, but "it's too early to provide detail, stay tuned for more info in the comming weeks".
It will do tests in the future (like it tested a new technology for the 789 recently), but this doesn't look like the "big plans". Maybe a world tour, like they also did with their 777-300ER/-200LR and the 767-400ER.
Edit: I have to correct myself a bit. The paint of ZA003 is not exactly the same dreamliner livery as it is on ZA001. It changed a bit, it also has some new elements in it wich also can be found on the 737MAX renderings.

Re: Boeing 787 and B748 nearing first delivery
China Eastern cancels its order for 24 Boeing 787s, converts them to 45 Boeing 737s.
This means that the B787 orders drop below 800. Another blow for Boeing? (Even if they will deliver 737s instead...)

Re: Boeing 787 and B748 nearing first delivery
Indeed another blow... airlines cancelling their orders are never a good thing (altough they change it in more 737 orders). But it also may have some advantages:sn26567 wrote:China Eastern cancels its order for 24 Boeing 787s, converts them to 45 Boeing 737s.

- the 787's were sold at very high discounts until the latest years, so Boeing may(!) earn more money on these 45 737's than they would on the 787's
- they can offer other airlines earlier delivery slots
- due to these earlier slots other airlines may be more interested to order the 787 or for who already has it on order, order more. And these can be sold at higher prices.
But all in all I would say this is not good for Boeing.
Re: Boeing 787 and B748 nearing first delivery
A 787 is quite something else than a 737.sn26567 wrote:China Eastern cancels its order for 24 Boeing 787s, converts them to 45 Boeing 737s.

Question is: which aircraft will fulfill the role of the canceled 787 ?
Re: Boeing 787 and B748 nearing first delivery
They had 15 on order for themself and 9 for shanghai airlines. And also today they announced orders for 9 A330's for shanghai airlines and 15 A330's for china eastern itself. So they just replaced the order to get the aircraft faster.regi wrote:A 787 is quite something else than a 737.sn26567 wrote:China Eastern cancels its order for 24 Boeing 787s, converts them to 45 Boeing 737s.
