Belgian judge forbids stopover in LGG for flights CRL-CMN

Post by LX-LGX »

Somewhere in 2006, Jet4you planned a stopover in LGG for its flights CRL-CMN (Casablanca). The regional minister for Transport appealed to that stopover, and a judge now has ruled in favour of the minister. "Such short flights cause too much damage to the environment", the judge says.

When that pre-flight CRL-LGG was announced, the federal minister for Transport announced he was going to make a new law that would forbit such short domestic flights. However, that guy - Landuyt - forgot to do so...

My thaught: aviation is seen by many as an excellent way of transport to their holiday or business destination, but also as a transport, damaging the environment - both for noise and for CO². Announcing short flights is giving anti-aviation people arguments against us.

I believe there are also daily ferry flights for TNT between BRU and LGG.

that's happenning EVERYWHERE and ALWAYS: Amsterdam-Groningen-sunny destination, Brussels-Lille-sunny destnation, Liège-Brussels-Antalya (I've been on board of one of those), Cologne-Frankfurt-destination, Frankfurt-Stuttgart-destination, etc..............and it's better for environnement if the plane is full for the long leg, anyway.
the only problem is: both airports are under juridiction of the same minister who acts only with elections in mind: and what is better to be seen as a great defendor of mother nature than to take this UNIQUE DECISION in the whole world.
In addition he will be well seen in the southern part of Wallonia and THERE IS HIS electoral circonscription !!!

If ANY of the readers of the posts related to that matter believes, only one second, that he doesn't know about LGG-BRU-desti, OST-LGG-desti, BRU-LIL,desti, etc, than he is very, very naive !!!!!

now to the court decision in itself: if we read well what the (good?) reporter writes: the decision of the judge is not relying on law, but on his own feeling of what is good for environnement or not: in my eyes, that's enough to appeal that decision because no law is involved in that decision!

And Jet4you must pay 15000 euros to the region !

There is most definitely room for an appeal, and I hope Jet4you will do it.

This is ridiculous! Jet4you has just to complain to the European Commission and they will send a warning notice to Belgium. Not a tiny chance for this sentence to stay.

This is the proof: http://ec.europa.eu/transport/air_porta ... cco_en.htm

Only europe could decide if short hops are legitimate or not.
A regional decision, like the dutch tax are only there to create a huge disadvantage for the local companies. And as collateral damage, move those companies to a different airport.

Always nice to look at this study about Cows... :D http://www.greendiary.com/entry/cow-emi ... l-warming/
Livestock are responsible for 18 per cent of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, more than cars, planes and all other forms of transport put together.
