Brazilian pilot on medevac mission loses eye in bird-strike

Post by FLY4HOURS.BE »

A Brazilian pilot flying on a Medevac twin-engine mission lost an eye during a bird-strike. The bird collided with the airplane's windshield and burst through the glass.
The 22 years young pilot was hit in his left eye and got knocked down for a few minutes but was able to land the airplane safely...
Although he was taken to the hospital and underwent immediate surgery, his eye seems to be lost.

Very sad, he lost everything, doing what he likes the most...
Worst part is that he will not be allowed to take the commands anymore...
So sorry :(

UH!! Sad story...
I thought the cockpit window was (almost) unbreakable ?!!
They say after a crash it's one of the parts they find complete and impossible to break with a fire axe??!!

Well a twin-engine is not a jetliner... I suppose the window is breakable, seen the outcome of this incident.
Very sad as you say

Birdstrike : UH-60 of the IAF.

Keep in mind: this is a helicopter with a max-speed of 300 km/h.
A bird can penetrate a canopy of a jet-fighter flying at 1000 km/h.
