Next winter Martinair will start a new service out of BRU.

BRU - MCT - CMB = Brussel-Muscat(Oman)-Colombo(Sri Lanka)

Great news !

And what about the flight Colombo - Phuket - Malé?

These flights were almost full.

I understand that Martinair will only be the operating carrier.

Who will commercialise these flights? Thomas Cook? Others?

Anyone feels like visiting Muscat on a first visit to the Gulf region, rather than Dubai for example?
Or is MCT merely a technical stop due to possible range restrictions of the B763.

Muscat is a far more pleasant stopping point than DXB these days. Not sure about the airport but the city itself is really nice. Very quiet compared to Dubai (though growing) it has some beautiful beaches and mountains as a backdrop. Good hotels too....it doesn;t have the mad night life of Dubai though all the hotels have decent pubs in them.

The Sultanant of Oman wins any comparisions in the Gulf countries list hand up...
Very nice people, great country-side,beautiful villages, terriffic beaches -all you really expect from a great vaccation. Muscat is not another Miami-verschnitt like Dubai, but a relatively small strech of communities stretching over 20 miles along the Oman sea.My favouritr Hotel : the Al Bustan .
Take a car-rental and drive to Nizwa -absolute stunning drive!
Have been there many times and Oman remains my favourite travel spot !!

the cyclon did a lot of destruction last week overthere, several casualties and lots of houses flooded....

But it is true that it is a beautiful place to visit....and Omani's are really nice people.....

I've been working there for a couple of month on the 2 A310 that Oman Air was operating back in....2000????

Hello

I thought no foreing carrier didn't dare to go to CMB after the last couple of attack of the 'Tamil Tigers' the past half year (maybe even longer). A wile ago my dad wanted to go to CMB, and I couldn't find any other flights than Sri Lankan airlines flights (long-haul). Couple of short haul airlines like Qatar airways and if I'm not mistaking also Silk Air still visited CMB from time to time but it seems that for the rest it is banned.

Prove n°2: If you look at the site of Colombo Banarayke int'l airport you only see Sri Lankan airlines advertentising...think that says enough.

So I was wondering, is Martinair the only foreign long-haul airline (charter) wich is going to fly on CMB again?

Thanks and best regards: Yannick ;)

CMB

The only scheduled carrier to cancel it's flight to CMB is Cathay Pacific. All other airlines are operating but on a different schedule due to the night closure.

Not sure which charter carriers will be flying this Winter but I have seen LTU/Arkefly/Martinair/CSA/Eurofly on the apron
