An-225 "Mriya": second example finished by 2008.

Post by ElcoB »

A second example of the largest cargo airplane in the world, the An-225 "Mriya," will be finished by 2008. The minister of transport and communications (Ukraine), Nikolay Rud'kovskiy, made such an announcement yesterday.
The construction of the second "Mriya" example started at the end of the 1980s but soon was put on ice. According to the independent expert, Aleksandr Kava, it is 65 – 70 percent complete.

It is recalled that Aviant recently signed a contract with Kazakhstan for the delivery of seven An-148 airplanes. According to Shevchenko, there are agreements for the delivery of 41 An-148 airplanes to Kazakhstan and Russia.

How much demand is there for the existing An-225? I see those An-124's around, but I've never seen the An-225 flying.

An225 is for really heavy load cargo, no need for anyone to buy them, but to borrow them to lift cargo.

I think the demand for this type of aircraft is quite high.

There are the regular charters for heavy/big parts, but there are also more durable contracts like USA airforce,....

Like USA airforce uses it often because the antonov fleet they use reliefs there C-5 and C-17, I read some where that they will get in problems if they use there C-17 at the current rate.

Also lockheed want/is using the AN-225 for moving there rockets parts around.

to rent the giant one adress : http://www.antonovairlines.co.uk/

also they have a nice powerpoint presentation of the aircraft.

Maybe Boeing want to use it also when they have problems with there 787 production.
