This is something i never thought would hapen:
BOMBARDIER AEROSPACE launched CRJ200 PF (Package Freighter) program; converted freighter will have cargo
volume of 1,700 cu ft/14,000 lb with MTOW of 53,000 lb.
And they have already order for the plane:
WEST AIR SWEDEN agreed to acquire the first two aircraft.
I suppose this is the only way to cep some older CJ flying!

Sounds like a good idea, tough I currently can't see any very large airline ordring them. DHL and Fedex already have F27 and Caravans. And UPS is always looking into larger aircraft. Tough once the F27 need replacement I think this will be a good canidate.
The most sexy girl in the sky: The Sud-Est Caravelle 12.

This could be a great use for the older RRJ's. Freighters generally are not used as much as passenger planes (6-7 hours per day vs. 12-14 for passenger versions) so fuel burn is of lesser concern. Bombardier needs to keep the planes flying so the market for them continues and spare parts are sold and generate revenue for Bombardier.
This is a value proposition and supports the market for the plane!

Well, FedEx has already made their decision to replace the F-27 with the ATR-42, so I am sure they will continue with that strategy.MrAirbus wrote:I will for sure be a much faster canidate! But i wonder if its so good to just from a cheep F27 to costly CRJ200
I can see how the CR2 would be a good option for air cargo companies who need to transport small amounts of freight very quickly, but this would not be the right choice for companies like UPS or DHL. If it is not extremely time sensitive, so what if it takes a half-hour longer in a turboprop.
Does UPS have anything smaller than the 721, or do they contract all of that flying out?
Onward and Upward...
