New Design Approaches to the Modern Terminal

Post by SN30952 »

Reading the Shanghai Star. 2003-10-23 I see this:
Within 10 years, China will finish the construction and renovation of 130 airports around the country and architects want to have a say in devising the most economic way to operate them.
In his newly released "New Design Approaches to the Modern Terminal", Peter Guo-Hua Fu, a Shanghai-born Canadian-Chinese architect, raises a new concept that an airport is a large, comprehensive industrial operation with high profits rather than just basic infrastructures.

The book is the first in Chinese to offer theoretical guidance in airport terminal design based on a review of more than 100 major international airport terminals around the world.
Experts say that most of China's airports don't make a profit because they fail to create a good environment for consumers. In many Western countries, more than 70% of an airports' profits come from commercial activities on top of landing fees.

China's aviation industry is expected to maintain its annual growth rate of more than 10%.

Pitty I can't read Chinese...
