Best airlines to Alaska?

Post by fokker_f27 »

This year we might go to Alaska. So we need to book flights once the decision is made. We are kinda looking for the best price-quality balance here. We like to fly "normal cost" airlines(e.g. American, Continental,...) . Which flights should we book?

At a guess Northwest maybe the quickest way there. I know my friend found it quickest when he went. Think it was AMS - Minneapolis and onto Anchorage. Service wise I would go for NWA or CO.

If you're starting out in Belgium, you could fly AA BRU-ORD-ANC or something of that nature. I have no idea what the costs would be but I'd bet you'd be on a 763 for the international flight, then a MD-80, 757 or a 767 for the second flight. I guess it depends on the season though cause I don't think AA is operating that route (ORD-ANC) right now.

Their MD-80 fleet is alive and well with numbers over 300 (larger than some airlines). In fact, American has more MD-80's than Continental has TOTAL planes. :wow:

This is true - they do have many MD-80's. Been on a few of them. Service was minimal but the FA at the back from DFW to Oakland was very friendly 'cos she had a scottish granny or something. Shame she was going onto LA from there.....

That said on the way back the MD80 went tech when we were on it....I was told its not an uncommon occurence! Had to go straight to IAH on CO. WHich was a bonus as it was where I was headed anyway!

@ fokker_f27

Please check your spelling

It's American Airlines, American Eagle, Continental and not Americain (that's something to eat), Conitnental ...

These are not 'just' spelling-errors anymore. Check your post next time please.

I agree. Go with NWA! The service on Northwest is good and the prices are usually pretty low.

Plus, wouldn't you want to fly on one of these?

I would like to fly a A330 sometime. But do we have to fly a DC9 then? My dad hates to fly a DC9.

No. On the MSP-ANC leg, you fly on a 757-200 or 757-300.

Actually, Northwest's DC-9s have 717 interiors and hush-kits, so they are much nicer than other airlines' DC-9s :D.
