Belgium granted already 5 freedom BRU-GVA.

Post by SN30952 »

Quoted from Travel Trade Report (as the website is down now):
Thai Airways International may replace its Bangkok-Zurich-Geneva route with a Bangkok-Geneva-Brussels service next summer, according to Thai's vice-president government relations department, Doosdee Smuthkochorn.
"The combination of Zurich and Geneva on the same route has not been so productive since both cities are in the same country and close to each other," said Mr. Doosdee. "We are thinking about linking it with other European destinations and Brussels seems to fit in the plan. Beside, we already obtained fifth freedom rights from the Belgian government."

Belgium granted already 5th freedom BRU-GVA.
Now wait and see what the Swiss will do.

Sawasdee, Fons!
Why is Belgium always so generous in granting fifth freedom rights? Now BRU-GVA to TG, earlier BRU-MAN and even BRU-JFK to SQ...

Do we get so many 5th freedom rights from Asian countries? (P.S. Anyway we wouldn't be able to use them since we don't fly there, but that's another matter...)

This being said, I'd love to fly BRU-GVA on a TG B777...

5th freedoms

Yes Andre, we are generous, but usually reciprocity will work.
I remember that between the two kingdoms and between the 2 King B's everything was granted: SN once enjoyed traffic between BKK and TYO, but also between BKK & SIN, BKK & KUL, BKK & MNL, some time between BKK & BOM as long as India granted, also BKK & UAE. I am not sure about BKK-JKT (the Dutch had a finger in de pap!)
The nice thing is that these traffic rights are written down and almost never struck out.

Who gets the traffic rights?
Traffic rights are between nations/countries.
Who benefits of the traffic rights?
The designated carrier(s)
This is the carrier designated by the nation/country to which it belongs, to operate the relation.
So AF use traffic rights of France.

All traffic rights (air-sea, etc) are negotiated in a portfolio, that is prepared by the diplomatic representations: its sometimes a give and take, and sometimes a simple buy: it belongs in the basket.
Luchtzak should open a forum on belgian traffic rights.
