SN2636 HAJ1330 – 1450BRU x67
SN2638 HAJ1720 – 1840BRU x6

As said previously, all flights are to be operated by Augsburg Airways with Dash 8-400 on behalf of SN.
Will Augsburg Airways offer the SN three class concept on those flights (b.business / b.flex / b.light ?), if the flights are operated 'on behalf of SN'?

I think the Dash 8-400 on that route is already an upgrade? When I have last been on that route (must have been late 2008 or early 2009) I think it was a contact air ATR42 operating the flight?

With the bmi flights 'on behalf of SN' to UK with the ERJ aircraft and now the Augsburg Airways flights to HAJ with Dash 8-400 it seems that SN is indeed in need of a smaller aircraft type than the Avro's.

They will indeed sell tickets in the usual 3 classes, although it will be interesting to see if they also do a real 3 class service in flight.

On the BMI operated flights to BRS and NCL for instance, b.light pax get a free drink and snack just like b.flex pax, since it was deemed too complicated by BMI to do a 3 class service on such a small plane, not to mention the hastle it would create for them when having to deal with the cash money from onboard sales.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the same happening on the HAJ flights.

Similarly, on the DME route the 3 class service will also be introduced soon, whereas now DME is operated with a traditional 2 class cabin configuration like on long haul, but here too b.light pax will receive a free drink and a hot meal, given the length of the flight and the head on competition from SU.

Maybe it's time for SN to upgrade the service for ALL b.light tickets holders?
There really shouldn't be a difference in onboard service levels between b.flex and b.light IMHO; let the difference between the 2 economy classes be felt only on the ground: fast lane, flexibility, more hand luggage, more miles etc...
A product simplification on board would make live much much easier for cabin crew and increase the levels of satisfaction of all pax flying SN: those in b.light will again get something for free and those in b.flex or b.business can be pampered more than currently is the case, since cabin crew will no longer waste time on selling sandwiches in the back of the plane.

CDG has tons of connection passengers. Jet Airways also codeshare on the SN flights to/from CDG and they said they don't have enough seats at some times. That's also why it's so expensive to fly CDG-BRU when you are not connected to a long haul fligth in BRU.

On peak moments, seats are rare indeed, but throughout the year, generally there isn't much of a capacity problem on CDG. What is problematic however is the volume of luggage: in the past it has happened that an RJ with not even 60 pax couldn't take all the luggage with it, because it was simply too much and too voluminous...

Regional jets (or even medium haul jets like the 737/A319) aren't designed for a full load of African pax that have 2 or more HUGE suitcases each, so whenever you start filling a medium haul plane to almost the last seat with only AFI pax, you're guaranteed to have luggage problems!

BTW- still remember the discussion about the idea to operate with regular A319s to Central -Africa?
This is another circumstantial piece of evidence in support of my comment that it simply isn't possible, unless you would fly there half empty. ;-)

I am surprised nobody seems to care that LH (HAJ) and BMI (BRS - NCL) is taking work off from SN staff ?

HAJ was not flown previously by SN, so no problem there, and the flights to BRS and NCL, now in wet lease by BMI are compensated by the LHR flights.

I don't see a real problem...

According to some rumours, Brussels Airlines wants to fill the gap in the West of France and start flying to Nantes or Bordeaux. Example of such rumours: http://www.nantesatlantique.forumactif.com.

Wouldnt be surprised if indeed they did, because the West of France is a black hole on the routemap indeed.

BOD has been served on an on\off basis by SN and VEX over the past few years so it isnt the money pot some think it is, but maybe with the increased offering on long haul it can be made viable? Besides, you can bet your life LH and the other STAR partners would be codesharing on the flight, so SN neednt go it alone this time: IS BOD currently even served by LH at present? I dont think so... an opportunity for SN indeed as they are the natural first choice within the LH group to serve BOD.

As to NTE, if they start serving that place, I think it will be another one of those destinations were they will have to rely on a wetlease: An Avro simply would be too big. Maybe they should give Augsbrug Airways a call? Oh, and the unions at SN, because the number of outsourced flights is spinning out of control....

Anyway, why not go for BOTH? Let us be ambitious and connect the West of France with Africa as well as Montreal (AC codeshare) through BRU!

Between September 9th and the end of October Aer Lingus will operate an extra flight to Dublin on Thursday afternoons.

Arrive BRU: 1625
Depart BRU: 1710

This would appear to be a reaction to severe reduction in capacity between Belgium and Ireland due to the cancellation by Ryanair of their 3 times weekly service from Charleroi to Shannon, and the reduction of their Charleroi to Dublin service from 13 weekly flights to 7 weekly flights (the evening rotations were axed).

Hopefully come the winter schedule Aer Lingus will be able to further increase the number of flights between Dublin and Brussels. I've seen on other forums speculation that Aer Lingus would eventually join the Star Alliance, which would mean they would then for sure codeshare with Brussels Airlines and other partners on Brussels' routes.

If this becomes true, it will be another blow to oneworld, which Aer Lingus left with thundering noise a couple of years ago!

Wasn't Ryanair flying for a while 4 times a day to Dublin and daily to Shannon?
Now just 1 daily flight to Dublin...That's a reduction by 80%!
Does anybody know the reason? It just can't all due to the crisis in the European Tiger...

Cheers,

If I remember, Ryanair said that both airports were to expensive to operate from. And when the airports did not give in to the Ryanair tactic "Reduce costs or we reduce flights", they did reduce the flights. And when you shout this from the rooftops, you need to do it to show people you are not just bluffing.

Reduction Shannon flights: http://www.ryanair.com/hu/news/ryanair- ... annon-base
Reduction Dublin flights: http://www.ryanair.com/en/news/ryanair- ... nter-08-09

If this is the real reason, or not, only Ryanair knows.

Looking back at the last decade:
BRU - DUB: Frequency has nearly always been twice daily (A320). A couple of years ago it was 3 times daily on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
CRL - DUB: This has varied a lot. Has recently been twice daily (737-800), but indeed in the past was for a long period three times daily.
CRL - SNN: For the last 3 or 4 years has been 3 times weekly (737-800), before that it was 5 times weekly (737-200).
BRU - ORK: Summer 2005 Brussels Airlines operated this route twice weekly (RJ85), in 2003 JetMagic (ERJ140) operated this route on a daily basis.

The current situation where Ryanair have reduced their services from Charleroi to Dublin and Shannon due to disputes over charges at those airports means there is now significant under-capacity between Belgium and Ireland. Prices on the Aer Lingus' routes have increased considerably when compared to last year: BRU-DUB, AMS-ORK, CDG-ORK...

Maybe a nice thing to know: Ljubljana airport will be renovated and most flights are transferred to other airports, scaled down or cancelled between 6 and 21 April. Most flights will be redirected to Maribor and buss transfer to Ljubljana is available for some flights.
The runway will be renovated. ;)
