I've found an article about Norwich International Airport. It's about a big drop in the amount of pax on the airport, but that is not the most important thing.
Mr Summers (the big boss of Norwich International Airport) said he was in talks with airlines over possible new services from Norwich to Newcastle, Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow, Brussels and Dusseldorf.
Has anyone any idea about the airline were Mr Summers is talking with about the brussels-Norwich route? I couldn't think about an airline to fly between BRU and Norwich. But it seems they are talking with an airline about that route, so there must be one. BMI Regional, FlyBe (most probably I think, because they have more destinations out of Norwich), Brussels Airlines...?

AVION1 wrote:Brussels Airport - In summer 2010 the Brussels Airport long haul network will be larger than it ever was in the past. The previous most successful season was the summer of 2000 with 155 weekly long haul flights, supported by the large long haul fleet of Sabena.

In 2010 Brussels Airport hosts a record number of 166 weekly long haul departures,

A comparison by continent shows that

- North America is still slightly behind (88, versus 93 in 2000),

- Asia is significantly larger (34, versus 11 in 2000),

- Sub-Sahara Africa is almost equal (35, versus 36 in 2000), - long haul leisure flights are still less developed (9, versus 15 in 2000).

Several new medium-haul destinations have been announced for the summer as well: Icelandair to Reykjavik, Middle East Airlines to Beirut
Off Topic
And still there are some few members who are always repeating (copy/paste) that BRU is no airport with only a handfull of long haul destinations.

On Topic.

And still there is some potential in every segment.

* North America can still grow with some extra frequencies on existing destinations and some new.

* Africa is off course the continent of SN but it is still possible that a real African carrier can start up a new destination to BRU like f.e. Arik Air.

* Asia will also grow with some new destinations and carrier(s)

* leisure long haul: this is a difficult one. We have one leisure carrier with their own 2 long haul aircraft. But they are also used on popular medium long haul destinations.
Thomas Cook Airlines is using XL Airways for their flights to Zanzibar/Mombasa, Phuket flights
This is a real diffucult one.

I'm still awaiting the much announced second EWR rotation by CO, they seem to be 'testing' IAH via EWR as well, so there might be something in the pipeline, too.

BOS is still expected, maybe by SN itself, and maybe there is some potential for one Westcoast city as well... I know these flights are hard to start up and maintain, but we don't know how the market will develop in a few years... But it is an advantage UA has a hub at both major Westcoast airports LAX and SFO.

Now, many will tell I'm crazy, but a seasonal flight to MIA could be possible as well, but then I think it will be by a leisure company. Maybe in combination with LAS? These cities don't have the potentional to be served from BRU year-round, but I do see a market in the high season? How dit JAF perform on their Orlando flights?

Maybe yes, but I guess the focus of BRU at Africa will stay with SN. SA could be an option as well?
* Asia will also grow with some new destinations and carrier(s)
I still believe this is the second grow market from BRU. The fact that Jet Airways established a hub at BRU has a big influence on Asia flights of course, but it remains uncertain what 9W will do alliance wise and what influence it will have at BRU. If 9W would go to Star Alliance, it could mean a real boost to BRU. Other companies: ANA, Thai and Singapore. Those are some of the airlines BRU should really try to attract.

I recently heard JAF is going to use the 787 as an extra plane and keep both 767's... If true, I guess they will solely deploy the 787 for long haul and alternate the 767's between medium and long haul.

It was just like the UA flight a slot keeper. If it returns then it won't be before the start of the winterseason.

SN and LH are going to upgrade the BRU-HAJ route by adding a 3rd daily frequency throughout the week.

Simultaneously, the route will officially be switched to SN, although it will remain being operated by Augsburg Airways....

So similar to the flights to Bristol and Newcastle.
SN flight number but operated by an other company.
I suppose that SN will do the passenger handling?

So officially SN will operate to 3 German destinations this summer: HAM, TXL and HAJ (FRA will stop from end this month), but they will only operate HAM and TXL with their own airplanes. Correct?

When will BRU-HAJ switch to SN? I checked some dates in May last night, and it is still shown as LH (Eurowings), but all booking classes are zeroed out.
