I guess with this project THY can fly to Mogadishu without any safety fear later.

According a quick search on his background, deputy PM Bozdag has no clue what it means to secure an airport perimeter. ( I have by the way)
But let us remain positive and assume that everything will devellop in the right direction.

Turkish, Brazilian airline firms sign codesharing deal

Under the agreement, Turkish Airlines (THY) and Brazil's TAM Airlines will be able to market designated flights on the partner airline.
Turkey's national flag carrier has signed a codesharing agreement with a Brazilian airline company, a company statement said on Thursday.
Under the agreement, Turkish Airlines (THY) and Brazil's TAM Airlines will be able to market designated flights on the partner airline.
The codeshare agreement enables Turkish Airlines to use its marketing flight code "TK" for travel from Sao Paulo to Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Iguassu Falls, Porto Alegre and Brasilia on flights which are operated by TAM. In addition, "TK" marketing flight code will be added to flights from Sao Paulo to Madrid.
Also, TAM Airlines will be able to put its marketing flight code "JJ" on Turkish Airlines' flights between Istanbul -Sao Paulo and Istanbul -Madrid.

This agreement will allow Turkish Airlines' passengers direct access to more destinations in Brazil and Argentina.

TAM Airlines operates direct flights to 43 destinations in Brazil and 19 cities in Latin America, the United States and Europe. Brazil will host the next FIFA World Cup, in 2014, and the Olympic Games in 2016.

Turkish Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Turkey, headquartered in Istanbul. It operates scheduled services to 146 international and 41 domestic cities (38 domestic airports), serving a total of 187 airports, in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

It carried 30 million passengers in the first 11 months of 2011.

Can anybody confirm that the upgrade to A330/340 for the IST-CMN is official?

Apparantly the loadfactors are pretty high, they are deploying lots of A330/340 instead of the normal A321?

SHJ and EDL not listed in TK cargo schedules nor mentioned in news section as launched, perhaps they were cancelled after just a month of service, Qatar Airways Cargo did same with Zaragoza.

Birmingham gets daily Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines is making a further commitment to the Midlands by increasing flights between Birmingham and Istanbul from five flights a week to daily services from 25 March.

The move will give business travellers better choice and flexibility to meet in Istanbul, and will provide more onward connectivity from Birmingham than ever before.

Over the last year, more and more people have been using Istanbul Ataturk Airport, on the European side of the Bosphorus to connect onwards with the airline’s over 190 strong route network, benefitting both business and leisure travellers.

Turkish Airlines will operate two-class Airbus 320 and Boeing 737-800 on the route.

THY sent a statement to Istanbul Stock Exchange as they intend to fly to Kigali this year based on aircraft availability. The flights will be as Istanbul Ataturk-Entebbe-Kigali.

THY's GM has told the media today that THY will start flying to Buenos Aires this June. The flights will be as Istanbul Ataturk-Sao Paulo-Buenos Aires. Mr.Kotil has told due to slot restrictions in Sao Paulo THY can only fly 4 times a week, but ready to fly daily if they can gain more slots. He also added that due to agreements THY can fly passengers between Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires.

THY is also starting Istanbul Ataturk-Kharkiv this year.

I don't see why TK was chosen Europe's best airline by skytrax.
flew them to IST and both flights were horrible! With the return flight the worst of the two.
We stayed on board during 5 hours with a bunch of mixed and bad communication. First we were not able to leave due to weather conditions (while we saw other aircraft coming in and leaving). During these 5 hours the cabin crew (and esp the pursor were hiding in the galley).
At the end of the 5 hours the cpt made an announcement that we would leave in 6 mins. After half an hour, they had to announce that the crew was over duty and had to be replaced. All the pax had to disembark and we would be informed by the ground staff. Arriving in the terminal the ground staff knew as much as we did : nothing!
Then we had to learn that the a/c had a technical problem!
Is it so hard to be honest?
Anyway we left IST with a delay of 8 hours and another unfriendly crew.
I had a SABENA feeling. In the way of : such a bad experience never again !

I admire the Turkish vitality and the path towards prosperity that is being taken by that great nation, however I am starting to wonder if all these routes are sustainable or if they are being opened for political reasons to increase the foothold of a none-the-less important country in the World of today and tomorrow.

Are there any statistics on the LF of these exotic routes and on their profitability? Have routes been closed in recent years, surely the route planners cannot be right every single time and hit a pot of gold for the bean counters.
