Doctor's dream reaches for the sky
A Thai allergy doctor who is a complete stranger to the aviation business is embarking on a new international airline that will operate out of Bangkok.
Thai Pacific Airlines (TPA) is operated by Thai Pacific Airlines Business Co. Dr Wasant Singhamanee, the owner of the Mor Wasant Allergy Clinic in Bangkok's Lat Phrao area, is the major shareholder.
Thai Pacific Airlines Business Co is to initially lease two Boeing 747-200s from Kuwait Airways and purchase them three years later.
It is granted traffic rights to operate scheduled services from Bangkok to four destinations _ Sydney, Seoul, Osaka and Honolulu _ according to industry sources.
The aircraft will be repainted with TPA's logo in bright orange and deep green. The logo is a Thai classical flower design, called lai dok prajum yam.
This is the second thai doctor in the air... Bangkok Airways belongs also to a doctor..

Why is TG flying to GVA, with the tacit agreement of LH?demol wrote:Why would TG come to BRU I think LH would never accept this
OK to ZRH, because it is a hub larger than BRU. But GVA, a small provincial airport that has many connections (served exclusively by LH!) with FRA and MUC???

More on TG to GVA from TTG
THAI launched its first flight to Geneva on 28 November 2002, utilizing Boeing 777-300 aircraft, capable of accommodating 388 passengers, with 49 business class and 339 economy class seats. THAI is scheduled to operate 3 weekly flights to Geneva every Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
Dr. Thanong Bidaya, THAI's Chairman, said, "With flight operations between Bangkok and Geneva, THAI aims to serve the diplomatic traffic to and from Thailand."

THAI adds flight to Geneva

The only direct access from the south of Switzerland into South-east Asia
GENEVA ? Thai Airways International (THAI) has inaugurated its second route from Bangkok to Switzerland with a thrice-weekly service to Geneva, offering the only direct access from southern Switzerland into South-east Asia.
THAI is operating a Boeing 777-300 with 49 seats in business class and 339 in economy.
Flying Monday, Thursday and Saturday, the new service, which is in addition to its daily Zurich service, has been introduced to meet growing demand from Thais wishing to have quicker access into south-west Switzerland and eastern France, but more particularly, to provide increased seat capacity into Bangkok.
THAI?s general manager for Switzerland, Mr Chumpot Mintarkhin, is projecting 108,000 passengers in the first year, with a broad mix of passengers, about 60 per cent tourists and 40 per cent corporates.
Mr Chumpot acknowledged that to make the service work, market share would have to be taken from the carrier?s Star Alliance partner Lufthansa. ?This is a pity,? he said, ?but we are very pleased to have secured traffic rights into Geneva and we know there?s strong demand.?
This will come not least from the traffic generated by 7,000 Swiss men married to Thais, many of whom feel a strong affinity with Thailand, its culture and cuisine.
The only doubt in the minds of THAI executives is about the routing. For the time being, the Bangkok-Geneva service is an extension of the long-established and very successful Bangkok-Athens-Bangkok service. That service will continue and could well be increased in the run-up to the Olympics in the Greek capital in 2004.
However, Thailand has not been able to secure fifth freedom rights on the Athens-Geneva sector and is unlikely to do so.
?We?re hoping that we can obtain rights from Abu Dhabi or Bahrain. The success of the Bangkok-Geneva service depends very much on this second sector,? Mr Chumpot said.

THAI's record shows an increase of 10% of travelers from October 2001 - July 2002 between Thailand and Switzerland when compared to the same period the previous year. IATA estimates an increase to 60,000 travelers in 2004 from 50,000 travelers in 2001 between Thailand and Switzerland as more direct flights are available.
THAI plans to introduce twice daily flights on THAI's main European routes including London, and Frankfurt within the next five years, as well as flight operations to Oslo and Manchester.
Then no word about BRU!

History of the actual BKK GVA
Originally planned as a BKK-ATH-GVA .
Route change announced because of lack of traffic rights between ATH-GVA.
Thai modifies GVA from April 1st - Thai will no longer fly BKK-ATH-GVA but BKK-AUH (Abu Dhabi)-GVA from April 2003. TG never got 5th freedom rights on GVA-ATH.
And now we see:
Geneva (GVA)- 12:30 (2)(4)(7) 0h50min Zurich (ZRH) 13:20 (2)(4)(7) 14:30 (2)(4)(7) 10h50min Bangkok Int'l (BKK) 06:20 (3)(5)(1)
Change of gauge
Annouced as 747, then flown in 777-300 and now in 744
It all started very well: Insider information told this:
The Thai flight to Geneva is apparently doing extremely well, an average of 100 to 140 passengers per flight after one week of operations. This combined with the huge increase of demand from Athens means that the capacity of the B777-300 is not big enough to handle both cities.
What is the situation now?
