The airport building is having a external "facelift".
Concrete decay has been removed and repaired and a part of the building will be repainted.
The "Cockpit bar" has been removed as there is no need for it with the new departure lounge.
A second conveyor belt will placed in the former cockpit bar in early 2018.
Still waiting a extra passenger operator, have the impression that the OST management is waiting for VLM to develop.

I agree, but the OST management works in mysterious ways.
We are still waiting for the promised UK connection.

Flying ferries?
Serious, Mr Buelens said in June 2017 that a UK connection was imminent.
Perhaps he switched the facts with ANR?
Re: 2017 Ostend-Bruges Airport (OST) latest news
Well, if a 4/week SEN-ANR schedule in summer could work for Antwerp, same could work for Ostend-Bruges.Serious, Mr Buelens said in June 2017 that a UK connection was imminent.

Certainly if SEN would act as some sort of hub allowing connections to the rest of UK and Ireland.
I would even say that a daily schedule SEN-OST is possible. After all it would be the fastest connection
for Bruges,Ghent,Belgian coast(e.g.Zeebrugge,Knokke,Blankenberge,...) to NE London and counties beyond.

OST-SEN would be less competition to ANR-LCY, which is a solid advantage. On a less rational scale, it would also recall good days long gone (Silver City, who remembers them? Even Sabena flew Bristol Freighters to ferry cars...)

I think the last regular passenger connection by air was in 1979.jan_olieslagers wrote: ↑19 Oct 2017, 17:13 OST-SEN would be less competition to ANR-LCY, which is a solid advantage. British air ferries, correct me if I am wrong.
Where did this trade go?
As mentioned here Southend with a connection to other airports would be great.
A route other than the TUI routes, more inbound than outbound passengers which is good for the local trade and tourism.
But airlines and or the airport management have other ideas.
Its still a matter of time before Antwerp station will get a Schengen terminal and a Eurostar/Thalys link with London.
More competition...

The Eurostar service to Amsterdam is scheduled for April 2018. In the near future Antwerp Central Station will not become a departure point due to high investment costs for the border control. Furthermore, the plan that the Eurostar would stop in Antwerp Central Station has been abandoned. Eurostar has stated their focus is on the Dutch market, i.e. Amsterdam and Rotterdam.ostair wrote: ↑19 Oct 2017, 20:26I think the last regular passenger connection by air was in 1979.jan_olieslagers wrote: ↑19 Oct 2017, 17:13 OST-SEN would be less competition to ANR-LCY, which is a solid advantage. New summer destinations for OST operated by TUIFLY are:
Corfu
Djerba(return after a couple of years)
Sharm el Sheikh
Hurghada
Will be interesting to see if Tunisair/Nouvelair will operate the route to Djerba.

Antonov 22 at Ostend airport! The only surviving airworthy example of this type still performing cargoflights.

I'm pretty sure the Russian Federation Air Force is still using some of them too.by FLYAIR10 » 27 Oct 2017 09:41 pm

But for me for sure the highlight of the year on a Belgian airport!

A special on OST airport in a local newspaper;
-Koen Servaes has been hired to promote the cargo operations at the airport
-So far no decent airline have plans to operate to the UK
-Airlines who have plans to operate the same routes as TUI are not welcome
--Fenair will become the second cargo handler, they seem to work at ANR aswell.
The airport welcomes the free market economy regarding freight handlers.
- The aiport has VIP lounge now called after a TUI(Jetair) spokesman.(luchtzak?)
- In the first half 2018 the airport plans to expand their airside terminal with a familyroom(kids arcade and several places to change diapers)
- Later on in 2018 the old restaurant Charles Lindbergh(situated outside the airportbuilding) will be reopened for non aviation customers. The kitchen will be large enough to provide for onboard catering.
Comment:
Strange that Aviapartner isn't good enough anymore and that the free market solution is their way now.
I understand that AP didn't want to invest in a dead coffin for over 10 years.
But I don't understand that TUI gets protection. Surely they are though enough to handle any kind of airline as competitor even in a regional airport.
TUI doesn't use OST for the lovely eyes of Mr Buelens. If they expand then they see some profit in the routes and the figures show it.
Non profitable routes(Rome) are scrapped so why protect them?
If TUI wants protection they have to leave CRL as Ryanair flies most of their routes.
Question;
-Has anyone worked with Fenair?
-Why is TUI operating the same flights as Ryanair?

Hans Vanhaelemeesch, killed by a truck while riding his bicycle.
I cannot understand why Marcel Buelens and Egis are so protective vis-à-vis TUIfly. Charleroi tries by all means to diversify from Ryanair. Ostend should do the same with TUI.
Anyway, if Ryanair or VLM or Brussels Airlines decide to launch a route from Ostend to Tenerife or Malaga in competition with TUIfly, there is no way Egis can refuse.

1. Fenair seems to be a rather small handling/logistics company with some activity both at ANR and LGG
2. Some RYR & TUI destinations from CLR overlap: Crete, Fez, Gran Canaria, Malaga, Nador, Rhodes, Oujda, ...

Thanks for this. But in OST, TUI is alone! No competition whatsoever!
