Let Brussels Airlines concentrate on their strength: Brussels Airport! In the past Sabena already tried flying from ANR, LGG, CRL (not sure about OST), but it has never been a big success. Until they become profitable, Brussels Airlines should reinforce their dominance at BRU. Afterwards, if they have the possibility (suitable planes, financing), they might look at other bases.crew1990 wrote:I wonder what Brussels Airlines is waiting to start flying from the regio-airport. If you check prices on the new flights from jetair, they seem to be dong quite well (fairly expensive tickets) from Ostend, which is a phenomenon you also see in their package holiday flights to the Canary Islands, btw. Those are often more expensive from Ostend than from Brussels, Charleroi or Liege on the same periods (and sometimes even the same triangular flight!). I think there is a pool of wealthy early retirees living at the coast, enjoying their pension benefits by going to sunny Spain quite regularly, from which their are tapping.
As to their flights from Antwerp to business places like Berlin: those are available for cheap even relatively short notice, so I'd say that is an indirect indication of them not being immediate hits. Too bad the airport of Antwerp is probably too small for flights to the Canary Islands, because they could do the same there as in Ostend otherwise, with more immediate results. Ah well, not everything can be a success, of course!

Well, at least the inaugural flight to Berlin had a LF of 90%. It will of course be difficult to have this figure on average out of ANR ,but at least JAF ,EGIS and Flemish authorities are doing their best to promote the route.(see below link)As to their flights from Antwerp to business places like Berlin: those are available for cheap even relatively short notice, so I'd say that is an indirect indication of them not being immediate hits
On the JAF website, prices for the first week of operations started at EUR 29,99 a few months ago .Then increased to 69,99 ,as a result of bookings,I assume . 2-3 weeks ago , rates dropped again to EUR 29,99.
Probably revenue management from JAF to fill the flights eventually..

That'd be great.3toons wrote:I hope that in the near future there will be a route from Scotland or the UK to Ostend.

Yes this is the objective at the end but for now the people from Ostende will fly Jetairfly to go to Barcelona from Ostende instead of Brussels, the people from Liege will fly VLM to go to Nice from Liege instead of Brussels.Avroflyer wrote:The focus is on making BRU a hub (a star alliance Hub ) rather than doing point to point flights from regional airports but who knows in the future...crew1990 wrote:I wonder what Brussels Airlines is waiting to start flying from the regio-airport. So it would be to me a good idea to base an avro or even a wet lease in those regional airport to ensure that Brussels Airlines don't lose their passenger to other company.
Also it could bring some fresh money to the company with point to point flight, this is actually what they do with all the summer destination which will not make from BRU a big HUB but which bring some money to expand the company.
Off course this is not for now because there are still plenty of new destination to open out of BRU but they could start thinking about it.
Re: 2015 Ostend-Bruges airport (OST/EBOS) latest news
Maybe on a Saturday afternoon / Sunday morning something like BRU-NCE-LGG-NVE-BRU could work, but apart from that, don't count on it.

Not sure this was already mentioned here;
Ostend airport implemented a Bus Shuttle service between the airport and the city-centers of Ostend(Casino) and Bruges (city center hotels). Prices 5 &10 EUR respectively. Very affordable I should say.

Does anyone know why there are long delays on flights in and out of Ostend?

Due to the troubles at Belgocontrol I would think.
Re: 2015 Ostend-Bruges airport (OST/EBOS) latest news
Indeed, flight JAF3584 is diverted to CDG because of the closure of the Belgian airspace and departed from CDG around 16.30lt. That plane also had to do flight JAF3393 what cause the big delay...

On June the 6th the DC-3 Dakota of the DDA visited Ostend airport.
Some pics can be found on the OST website.

Make them 'black& white' and some of the pics could have been taken in the sixties/early seventies at OST.

Thank you, flyair10, it is not that relevant after all.
Above all it is nice to see the DC3 still flying, it must cost lots and lots of effort and of money to achieve this.
Well done!

Marcel Buelens CEO of EBOS has plans to expand the parking with 600 cars.
He also wants a taxfree shop at the airside. But this appears to be a problem as nobody is willing to invest.
There are also plans for a coffeeshop before the airside.
He is also talking to the people of Belair restaurant to renovate their restaurant.

Strange destination for OST at first sight indeed. Only related to a few flights during July and august, but nevertheless extra traffic for a regional airport.New JAF destination from 23 July to TIA, once a week till the end of August.
TIA of all places...
It seems Transavia has started flights for Paris to Tirana as from July 2nd.
Could it be JAF is trying to catch a part of the traffic generated by the Albanian community living in Northern France? On the other hand Albania seems to become a country where tourism is on the rise aswell.
Re: 2015 Ostend-Bruges airport (OST/EBOS) latest news
Ryanair press conference today: About Ostend (I asked the question at the request of one of our members), Michael O'Leary said that Ryanair is talking to the airport, but has no plans for the immediate future. It is a secondary airport, and the number of aircraft currently available does not allow to serve such airports in the near future. But on a long-term perspective (5 to 8 years), OST might come back in the picture.
