Here is the official application to fly PHL-ATH.

US Airways already holds USA-Belgium and USA-Switzerland authority so we shouldn't have to apply.
That is interesting is that this application says we'll be flying B767-200ER to ATH which goes against what was said in the conference call yesterday. I assume this was changed and the A333 will make the trip.
Heck maybe we'll be getting those EK A340s to make the trip.

It is now official. US has been granted permission to fly PHL-ATH.

There is still some discussion on what type of aircraft this will be. The DOT filing says 762 and US Airways 3rd quarter conference call said A333. I'm still guessing A333, but removing one from MAD is not a good solution. We'll just have to wait until May 25, 2007 when the seasonal service begins.

And on the US website :

It's now also possible to book the flights via their own website.
Since a couple of days the flights were available already via Amadeus.

Here is the schedule right out of SABRE:
All 3 new flights will be in/out of Terminal B. It looks like we haven't gotten the additional gates out of Terminal A so we'll be using the remote people movers to get arrivals into customs. I hope this is only a short term "solution" as what a pain in the ass that is. Maybe it is only until we get the Delta merger figured out.758 PHL ATH 400P 855A 767 starts May 25 ends October 5
759 ATH PHL 1125A 335P 767 starts May 26 ends October 6
750 PHL BRU 830P 1020A 757 starts June 1
eff Oct. 28 operated by 767 but no service MWF
751 BRU PHL 1240P 325P 757 starts June 2
eff Oct. 29 operated by 767 but no service TQJ. *Tues Thur and Sat
710 PHL ZRH 610P 805A 767 starts June 8
no sevice on TQS eff. Oct 27
711 ZRH PHL 1025A 135P 767 starts June 9
no service on MWF eff Oct 28
Thanks for this cageyjames. I know that US is much a seasonal airline, so can we expect the service to be upgraded to daily again the summer after ? I guess also the type will change back from 762 to 752 too then ?
And another question : Are the registrations already known of the first seven 752's to be retrofitted with winglets ?
Thanks in advance, Robin Bamps.

Which gates? Which terminal, A west or A east? Its not a problem having those flights depart from terminal B. They will have to arrive at either A east or A west for customs to avoid that people mover thing. Can be accomplished with the proper timing of the flight arrivals Hopefully they will get that under control because the arrivals in PHL are not too nice and this will make it a nightmarecageyjames wrote:Here is the schedule right out of SABRE:All 3 new flights will be in/out of Terminal B. They will arrive/depart from B. So when you land, you'll have to be bussed over to the customs.
Why we put up with PHL is beyond me.
As for the 757s. They will be from old US (no HP), with new interiors and winglets. I'm not sure which ones are going to be converted or even have been converted (I'll have to look them up). The HP 757s will get winglets too, but not for a while.

Disaster is the works. As i have stated before, i have flown on your European flights and i can tell you from first hand experience, the customs hall is full and theres a lot of walking involved. Using those people movers is going to be a mess. The city needs to come up with a better solution.cageyjames wrote:They will arrive/depart from B. At least the aircraft will have new interiors (all international except the A333s)TexasGuy wrote:Disaster is the works.
Horrible, I've seen videos of it in action from previous years. No one from employees or the customers is in a good mood in any of the pictures.Using those people movers is going to be a mess.
At this point if we get control of DL, I see no reason not to shift more flights to JFK. Why expand if the airport can't support us?The city needs to come up with a better solution.

An agreement has been reached:
Gate Agreement Allows US Airways to add European Flights
Gate Agreement Allows US Airways to add European Flights
I guess by then US and DL will be one?City aviation director Charles Isdell says a plan to move Delta Air Lines to three gates in a terminal that U-S Airways had argued should be reserved for overseas flights will be delayed until October. That will enable U-S Airways to lease the three gates to add the flights this spring.
