EBOS 8th September 2004 (Illustrated)

Post by Comet »

We made our first visit to EBOS on 8th September. After finding the ground floor of the terminal deserted, we headed up to the upstairs cafe and managed to get a seat near the window. It was quiet, but I did get some photos and shoot some video.

Here is a totally unmarked aircraft. Does anyone know anything about it at all?

Whilst the DC8 was preparing to taxi for departure, it powered up its engines and a jet of orange flame came out of the back, but I did not get this on photo or video.

Thanks for the nice pictures Comet. The orange flame you saw is certainly something spectacualr to see for real!!!!

About the Futura registration, I assume it's EC-EGZ.

Thanks for reply Chris, the orange flame was indeed spectacular, and the fact that it only came from one engine as well made it even more weird to see. I couldn't believe it when the flame just shot out of the back of the engine, as I was just preparing the video to film the aircraft as it taxied away.

Thanks for the reg of the Futura, I could not manage to see it,no matter where I stood because of the angle of the aircraft, so I just noted the "Z" on the nosewheel doors.

Looks like we were in EBOS at a totally sh*tty time, wish someone would have told me about that Nimrod :dammit: I've never had the opportunity to bag one of those. We paid the 2Euro fare to the airport to see three airworthy aircraft and an abandoned one, though it was nice to see my first DC8 in years.

Futura can also be EC-GNZ...

Nice pics Comet!

The Futura will be EC-GNZ (like Glider said) because EC-EGZ is an Alouette III.

Does someone know why the dc-8 (4K-AZ25) never left Ostende?

All usable parts have been removed from 4K-AZ25 so she will never fly again.

Thanks for the info on that abandoned aircraft. I wonder why it has not been broken up, if all the parts are removed so it is not flyable? That is the first time I have seen an abandoned aircraft like that so close to an airport terminal, I am surprised it is not put somewhere out of the way.

Back to the Futura, that was my first one, but I saw an even more interesting one in BRU on 16th September, I got a photo and will post it with my flight report. I could not believe what I was seeing at first when this aircraft taxied for take off 8O

In many airports such aircraft are used for exercises of the fire brigade.

Sorry for the confusion with the reg. I meant GNZ and wrote EGZ yesterday evening. I must have been really tired
