The rumour has it here in Thailand that TG is planning aBKK-GVA-BRU & vv from summer 2004 on.
Is it only to close the door to the private thai operators? As they cannot stop an eventual Belgian operator.
Note that Phuket airlines is negotiating the lease of 2 B747, and that plans exsist for another operator to fly from Skandinavia.

BKK via GVA by TG in S04
Frederic,
The GVA stop on the BKK BRU & vv has neither been denied in Thailand nor at BIAC. Moreover, this flight would at this time be a solely TG one.
Fons
PS
But as I mentioned too, it would rather be a tactical play of TG, in order to close the traffic rights door to other thai operators. Do they have the equipment to operate?

We will know more after Sep03
Thai / United (Aug01, 2003)
Thai is still in talks with United about the purchase of 7 Boeing 747-400s. The airline expects these talks to be concluded by Sep03, if they are not Thai will likely look to other airlines for more aircraft. (www.justplanes.com)

Thai is already flying BKK-ZRH-GVA thrice a week (TG972) with a 744. This is a blow in the face of the former Swissair, which wanted to concentrate all intercontinental flights in ZRH and eliminate GVA as an intercontinental destination. This policy has been retained by Swiss.
Since TG and LX are already codesharing twice a day on BKK-ZRH (and I doubt it they can fill their MD11s), it seems a bright move to have weekly three of these flights avoid ZRH and serve BRU instead.

He guys,
why not having EVA serving BRU with pax ? I know the flights ex LHR and AMS go thru BKK, and seems that this destination takes the largest part of the capacity on those routes.
They are also working to have their cargo hub in BRU as well, with about 8 flts a week to start with. If they get the guarantee they can operate the 747 24h/day without fines (due noise), they consider to bring in that a/c as well

But maybe we could see the B747-400 Combi one day. That's a good compromise, if they want to start flying pax to BRU and increasing there cargo flights. They also recently converted a MD11 pax (b16102) into freighter, but I don't think we will ever see that in BRU, due to the lower max zfw and max tow (258t vs 283t)
This may sound ridiculous but what does zfw mean
Ciao

Hey Fons, I see from your number that you are almost as ancient at Sabena as myself. What are you doing now in Thailand now?SN30952 wrote:Fons SN30952

sorry Chris,
zfw stands for zero fuel weight. This is the weight of the aircraft+crew+catering+slf (self loading freight = pax)+deadload (cargo, bags, mail,..). It is a structural limit given by the builder of the aircraft. This way you can figure out the maximum load you can carry, if not restricted by other factors.
an example : the DOW (Dry Operating Weight = aircraft + crew + catering) of an eva md11F is around 114000kg. The max zfw is 204706kg. This means that this a/c would be able to carry 90t of freight. I hope its not to complicated, but to have better view in this matter, you should get a basic weight and balance course. As you get a re-run for maths and physics, I suggest we keep this for the beer you will be buying when you've past (check the forum, Duvel is my favourite)

Hello,
I was in a group studying the possibility to exploit md11f to and from bru.
We were planning on 85tons payload for 8.5 flight time. The max payload can also be restricted by its volume....
For longer flights it would have been a mix of payload reduction or intermediate fuel stop depending on the total yield.
Happy landings
