This is exactly the tactical adjustment type i was meaning when raising the question.

Currently there is an additional re-consolidation of A319 in the group:
- EWE is shifting to an all A320 AOC and switching aircraft with EWG
- Lufthansa City is designated as A319 operator and may consolidate the remaining ex OS A319 and the last A319 of the mainline post 2027
- at the same time they would operate A220 or E95-2 from an upcoming order

And the mainline is redistributing end of the tail 320 CEOs to growing brands (and they would need A320NEO fam replacements as well)

Thus beside the strategic upgauging 319->320 which should take some years, there is a tactical option to grow additionaly by:
- extending, even tactical curren 319 leases
- getting used 319 and 320CEO's from the group (and exchanging later these 319 to 320NEOs)

Just wondering why SN get the -251 series of engines and all the others LH/LX/OS the -271 series of engines on the NEO

Because Lufthansa is upset with their current GTF P&W engine issues, and haven't been compensated accordingly. Hence, the next 30 A320neo and next 9 A321neo of Lufthansa will be powered by CFM (-251), I assume they made the same choice for SN's batch for the same reasons. The LEAP engine is more conservative but also more reliable. P&W is also in trouble with the A220 and E2 programs. Hard times ahead for them...

My "theory" is that Lufthansa does not like to put all the egg in one basket. This is why they have 787 and A350, A380 and 747-800 having negociation with Embraer and Airbus for an E-jet vs A220 order, negociation with boeing to maybe get 737max. So given this trend, this seems logical to also have 2 engine providers.

Simply....At very large volumes the economies of scale become minimal thus some considerations of risk mitigation prevail. On group level there are approx 420 Airbus 320 family aircraft, with ITA joining the group and some growth we may speak soon about around 500.

The double engine strategy was planned from the beginning , where available - LH and Swiss planned to become the PWs, EW, SN and OS the LEAPs. OS got PW altough otherwise planned, so let's see if there would be a switch back.

On regional aircraft and long haul where numbers are smaller, there is an alternate between the models between the sizes, typically with the best suited model for a certain size chosen. 789 fits better at OS because of the range, A350 better to Swiss due to more space (and First offering) and so on.

IAG is dealing in the same way, eg by switching the Vueling fleet to B737 and keeping the network brands with A320 family.

I love the extra large bins (experienced them when flying to Zurich on a similar A320neo).

It improves so much the boarding time ... I only hope pax will now not bring even more luggage :?

OO-SSA is back from the paint shop in East Midlands (EMA), now OO-SSB flew there for its paintjob (yesterday). Only 3 A319 left in the old livery. A bit strange since I thought 5 would leave the fleet to be replaced by the A320neo. Why repainting some when they will leave the fleet in a few months?

Currently 5 planes are in maintenance (in different places), 1 is 'on the ground' due to technical reasons (in Abidjan)

Total number of planes in new livery: 19 (including one special livery)
Total number of planes in STAR livery: 4
Total number of planes in EW livery: 3
Total number of planes in old SN livery: 13
Total number of (non-adapted) special liveries: 4

SSA and SSB are not going out of the fleet soon (btw, unlike their regs. might suggest they are also not the oldest in the fleet)
